We’re only hours away from the global unveiling of Polestar’s first ever car, which will apparently be called Polestar 1. The company, which recently broke away from Volvo to be an independent outfit focusing on making electrified high-performance cars, has finally revealed in full the rear section of the 1.
There’s no mistake here – the car looks eerily similar to the Volvo Concept Coupe (a 2013 debutant), although it’s unclear as yet if this remains a concept or an actual production unit. Several visual keys like the rear parking sensors, reverse camera and reflectors seem like promising hints that point toward the latter, but we’ll have to wait for the official word to be sure.
If the 1 is to be built based on the Volvo Concept Coupe, then it’s also possible that the car may ride on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture, sharing the same 407 hp/640 Nm Twin Engine configuration as the S90 T8. However, expect Polestar to boost those figures up a notch or two.
As for chassis tuning, the company may or may not have received expert input by Lotus (Geely owns Volvo, and recently acquired Lotus), considering its current status as subsidiary to of Volvo Car Group (pending full consolidation). In any case, we’ll find out soon enough. The veils covering the Polestar 1 will be taken off in Shanghai later today. For now, watch the hype reel below and stay tuned for the launch!

Frankly speaking, was expecting that the production version of the Volvo Concept Coupe to be badged as….what else, as Volvo! It should have been a spiritual successor to Volvo P1800 & C70, and could have been a worthy alternative to the ubiquitous German coupes.
This standalone Polestar branding is indeed a very ambitious venture. The Volvo-Polestar sounds more acceptable to the audience , much like the Merc-AMG branding. Maybe the Swedes just want to get out of the norms. But to most carbuyers brand heritage is still very important.
Polestar > all
Crabby rearlights…real nice.
