Mercedes-Benz Malaysia set to introduce new EQ electric vehicle charging facility at Desa Park City

In line with its new EQ branding push, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) is set to introduce its fourth public EV charging station in the Klang Valley. The new facility, a two-bay EQ charging station at The Waterfront in Desa Park City, will be officially launched later today. It joins the existing EQ facilities located in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Sunway Pyramid and Pavilion KL.

The charging station at DPC is the company’s first application with an outdoor placement, but it won’t be the last. According to MBM vice-president of sales and marketing Mark Raine, there are plans to introduce more outdoor charging locations, and not just in shopping centres.

“While there’s no denying that charging stations in shopping centres are very convenient locations for Mercedes-Benz EQ Power hybrid users, there’s a need to push beyond that to ensure a better reach, and by this we’re talking about residential areas and office buildings. It’s something we’re looking at for the future,” he told paultan.org ahead of the EQ Brand Exhibition, which begins tomorrow.

The event, which is open to the public, will not just showcase the brand’s newly-designated EQ Power hybrids, the Mercedes-Benz EQ Power C 350 e and EQ Power E 350 e and hybrid tech but also have the Concept EQ on display. The study, known as Generation EQ, is being brought in to highlight the electric direction of the automaker and also to create more awareness of MBM’s EQ push in the country.

The electric SUV concept will be on display at the event, which runs from May 4-7 at The Waterfront in Desa Park City, from 10 am to 6 pm daily.

This method of promoting electric cars is not sustainable. Imagine if every car brand puts up their own proprietary charging stations at carparks. People will eventually be turned off and continue to rely on their trusty gasoline cars that can refuel at any petrol station.

You need to go out more. All PHEVs available in Malaysia use Type 2 connectors, and on any given day you can see BMWs and Volvos parked in the branded but otherwise standard charging station at BSC.

Nope. Perhaps you should be reading more. There’s DC fast chargers and there’s level 2 chargers. Maybe go out from Bangsar for a change.

    Well done Mercedes Malaysia.

That’s good corporate social responsibility there, as you sell more PHEVs and eventually EVs, you are also providing users with more options to charge their vehicles around the country.

Unlike BMW where they flood the market with PHEVs only to consume the charging spots and not providing any. I’ve lost count of how many BMWs I’ve found parking at charging spots with their batteries already fully charged for hours.

    • I had never thought of it that way. Shame on BMW indeed. Charging Infra all full of 330e that’s not even charging.

At least they take innitiative to promote rather than waiting others to set up the facilities

Any car can charge at these station and majority of charging stations in the country is done by the Ministry. It’s a good move by MB to increase the station

where are your statistics and proof to show that the majority of charging stations are setup by gov ? most of the stations i have seen so far are in malls which are done by private companies.
