If ruggedness is what you seek, maybe the Volkswagen Tiguan Offroad is what you need. Unveiled during this year’s Moscow Motor Show, the new model comes with a number of features to reflect what its nameplate suggests.

On the exterior, you’ll find a set of off-road bumpers that provide an increased approach angle of 26 degrees. Also present are 17-inch ‘Tulsa’ alloy wheels, an R-Line roof spoiler, black-painted side mirrors, LED taillights and optional adaptive LED headlamps.

Buyers can choose from a number of colours – White Silver, Pure White, Deep Black and Tungsten Silver – with the option of having the roof painted black as well.

On the inside, a mix of fabric and synthetic materials are used to ensure a wear-resistant finish on different surfaces. Other highlights are unique rubber mats with the ‘Offroad’ logo, light-alloy pedal pads and inscribed door sills.

Powertrain options include two petrol engines – 1.4 TSI (150 PS) and 2.0 TSI (180 PS) – along with a sole 2.0 TDI diesel (150 PS). All engines are linked to a seven-speed DSG gearbox as well as a standard 4Motion all-wheel drive system – handy for the off-roading you’ll be doing.

Equipment-wise, the Tiguan Offroad can be had with an Active Info Display, Composition Media infotainment system, 8-inch touchscreen, powered tailgate, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a reverse camera and parking sensors.

Volkswagen also offers the Innovation Package as an option, with added features such as ACC Stop & Go, adaptive LED headlights, keyless entry and start, and Park Assist. Larger 18-inch ‘Sebring’ alloy wheels are also available.

The Tiguan Offroad will be built alongside the normal Tiguan at the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga, Russia, with sales slated to begin on October 1.
