SPIED: Ford F-150 EV – all electric pick-up truck seen?

It’s no secret that Ford is putting heavy emphasis on its electrification push these days, with models such as the Mach 1 all-electric SUV and Mustang Mach-E already in the pipeline. The former, Ford says, features a high-performance electric powertrain that will “go like hell,” and we can expect no less from the Mustang.

While the electric push is largely centred around its passenger car range, it looks like the Blue Oval’s commercial vehicle line-up, particularly the huge F-150 pick-up truck, will probably go down the zero-emissions route as well. Our spy photographers caught sight of a clatter-free F-150 that’s heavily masked in camouflage vinyl, suggesting that it’s being propelled by an electric powertrain.

If that’s the case, then the exterior shell is clearly meant to deceive, with this prototype sporting a prominent chromed exhaust pipe. We can’t tell if it’s actually connected to a full exhaust system, but a close-up shot seems to indicate otherwise.

Our photographers also noted the F-150’s slightly taller ride height, possibly to provide additional ground clearance, seeing as the battery pack is located under the floor. There is apparently a charging port cutout located on the front bumper, but this set of eyes failed to ascertain its actual position. However, since the pick-up truck is still in the very early stages of development, there’s no word on the technical side of things.

Meanwhile, the new Mustang-inspired EV will have a range of more than 500 km, and it will be built in Mexico. A dedicated business unit named Team Edison has been tasked with handling the production of Ford’s EV models, and will be based in Corktown, Detroit.
