With the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show just around the corner, Honda has released the first official images of the Honda e in its final mass production form. At the same time, the Japanese carmaker also provided further technical specifications of the compact (and rather cute) electric vehicle.
Styling-wise, the final product that customers in selected markets will welcome looks identical to the Honda e Prototype that was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.
Everything from the design of the wheels and lighting units, to the car’s shutlines and positioning of the charging port at the nose, is as per what we saw months ago, so if you like the look of it in prototype form, rest assured. This extends to the interior of the Honda e, which retains the same layout as the prototype, with no less than five screens on the dashboard.
The driver and front passenger can use the two primary 12.3-inch displays independently, while the remaining three screens are dedicated to the side cameras (two six-inch units) as well as the driver’s eight-inch digital instrument cluster, as Honda has previously detailed.
Connected services and applications play a vital role in the Honda e, and the company has included its Honda Personal Assistant voice command service (activated by saying “OK Honda”) to access them. Other functions include the use of the My Honda+ smartphone application to connect to the vehicle remotely, which can also serve as a digital key if needed.
As for the electric powertrain, Honda offers two power outputs – 100 kW (136 PS) and 113 kW (154 PS) – which are provided by an electric motor driving the rear axle; maximum torque is rated at 315 Nm. In terms of performance, the Honda e will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in approximately eight seconds.
The electric motor draws current from a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery positioned on the floor of the car, and Honda claims a range of up to 220 km on a single charge. With DC rapid charging via a CCS2 connection, the battery can achieve an 80% state of charge in just 30 minutes. The alternative here is AC charging with a Type 2 connection, although Honda did not reveal the charging time with this method.
Customers in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Norway can make a reservation for priority ordering online, while those in other European markets are able to register their interest at their respective Honda national websites. No word on official pricing as of yet, but rumours indicate a starting price of around 40,000 euros (RM185,170).
