MILDEF Malaysia 4×4 armoured recon vehicle revealed

Created out of the Lahad Datu incident in 2013, Malaysian defence contractor MILDEF has revealed the home built 4×4 High Mobility Armoured Vehicle (HMAV), developed at a cost of RM16 million. Built to NATO AEP-55 Stanag 4569 ballistic standard which covers “Protection Levels for Occupants of Logistic and Light Armored Vehicles”, the MILDEF HMAV is protected against strikes from kinetic energy, artillery, and IED (improvised explosive device) blasts, typical threats in an urban warfare environment.

Armoured to Stanag 4569 Level 2, the HMAV is capable of withstanding 7.62 mm armour piercing rounds from 30 meters as well as impact energy from 6 kg of explosives, such as mines, at any wheel location or under the centre of the vehicle. Additionally, the HMAV is also resistant to 155 mm high explosive artillery falling at distance of 80 metres or more.

With a vehicle weight of 13.2 tons, the HMAV has a power to weight ratio of 25 hp per ton and power comes from a Caterpillar diesel. Displacing 7,200 cc, this turbocharged diesel produces 330 hp, whichis capable of propelling the HMAV to a maximum speed of 110 km/h.

A remote controlled weapons system (RCWS) allows the HMAV operator to provide around vehicle defence and offence without personnel having to exit the vehicle. The HMAV is also equipped with smoke grenades for concealment during attack.

Sepang based MILDEF was founded in 2005, when incursion by pirates in Sabah prompted CEO Dato Sri Mohd Nizam to lead a restructuring exercise to focus on the research and development of military vehicles in Malaysia. Other vehicles in the MILDEF catalogue include the 6×6 Medium Recovery Vehicle (MRV) and a 197 hp, 470 Nm Special Operation Vehicle for rapid response and deployment.

Can you highlight this story please. Thank you.

    • Interestingly it is not a proton. So where are these ‘owner’ stories about their brand new proton cars unable to start, or constant breakdowns, or waiting spareparts not appearing in official news channels. Fake news ‘suppose?

  • Honestly design agak hodoh.
Tapi harap2 kekurangan tu diganti dengan lebih functionality/safety/practicality to protect our national guards.

“Honestly agak hodoh”. Of course ! When an enemy engage a fully armored vehicle equipped with remote 50 cal. They want it to be pretty like a myvi.

    • Might as well just send drones to fight wars since humans are so squishy. Anytime come out will get knocked out a dozen in one burst.

later…..all rosak and cannot use. Reasons?
    No spare parts, maintenance expensive.

So remember, always always buy branded, conti brand like Mercedes S class. Surely cheaper to maintain compared to Jepunis, Kimchi, or National cars.

This is Malaysia manufactured, not overseas like Sukhoi plane Russia,so spare parts and maintenance will be sufficient. You read or not?aiyaaa

Is that RWS? Nice! Especially this is good armored vehicle. But we need more government to support them despite these pandemics.

Hope our Philippine Army will notice this beautiful Armored vehicle made in Malaysia. Recently, Philippine Army is acquiring 200 units of MRAP. Still, under process of the said acquisition. This is really a very good choice if acquired by our Army.
