Proton has announced the appointment of Roslan Abdullah as its new deputy CEO, effective from January 1, 2022. Previously, Roslan held the roles of vice president, sales and marketing for Proton as well as CEO of Proton Edar since June 1, 2020.
With over three decades of experience in the automotive sector, Roslan has served at Modenas, Isuzu Hicom Malaysia as well as the Honda Malaysia, the last of which saw him as president and CEO of the company. He is also a finance and accountancy degree holder from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom.
“Roslan Abdullah has played a key role in supporting the leadership of Proton and guiding the overall management of the business, particularly by strengthening the sales and marketing functions. I am confident we will be able to form a strong partnership to lead the company to greater heights,” said Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.
Roslan succeeds the long-serving Datuk Radzaif Mohamed, who retired as deputy CEO on December 31, 2021 after being in the role since April 1, 2016. In an official release, Proton thanked Radzaif for his service and said he was instrumental in overseeing the eventual partnership between DRB-Hicom and Zhejiang Geely Holding (Geely), which paved the way for the company to reach its current position in the automotive industry today.
“Proton would like to place on record our appreciation to Datuk Radzaif Mohamed for his invaluable contribution and unwavering commitment towards our success. The importance of getting it right in the early days of the partnership with Geely has been critical towards the company’s turnaround thus far and his leadership during this period was invaluable,” added Li.

Proton made the right choice, with a top executive who is like minded as Dr Li to back him up and push further forward.
Roslan was instrumental with Honda’s rapid rise in Malaysia when he was CEO, pushing out cars after cars with market firsts specs at competition beating prices. Under him, HM knocked Toyota off their cozy perch in all segments and sat on it until he left, while he was there they were unshakeable.
His work the past year in sales also was outstanding, one of the few brands that were increasing sales & deliveries despite overall TIV reduction. Giving him a bigger role, he and Dr Li could take Proton to the next level, knocking Perodua off their perch.
Proton X70 and X50 have knocked Honda HR-V, Civic, CR-V.
Now Dr. Li has him to take care Proton instead of Honda, Honda is knocked further.
I doubt it, Honda has never threatened Proton’s lineup even within the same segments, both cater to different affordability levels of buyers, unlike Honda vs Toyota.
Proton competes with Honda and Toyota. Both links that you can look at:
https://paultan.org/2018/07/13/proton-to-improve-products-and-after-sales-sees-japanese-as-competitors-not-perodua-ceo/
https://paultan.org/2019/12/13/proton-says-it-is-now-competing-with-honda-and-toyota-in-terms-of-quality-perodua-not-in-its-sights/
But can see that P1 and P2 are still competing each other.
Quality perception, not direct competition. A City buyer won’t consider getting a Persona even tho both are in the same segment since they both cater to different affordability levels.
Dr Li is not even safe in his position now.
New year begins for Proton. Go P1!!

Proton Pakistan without delivering a single unit has increased price a lot, proton partners Al haj motors are very lukewarm in their commitments, you can do an independent survey it has hugely disrepute the reputation of proton in Pakistan. Please interfere and ensure yours name saving and the agony of customers who are waiting for over one year.
