Johor police detain 22 three-wheelers in special ops

Three-wheeled motorcycles, otherwise known as sidecar combinations, are in common use on Malaysia road and used for carrying goods for small businesses notably in the scrap trade. In a special operation in the North Johor Bharu police district, police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) conducted a special operation targeting three-wheeled motorcycles.

During the operation conducted on May 23, JSPT personnel detained modified 22 three-wheelers operated by by Rohingya nationals. Upon examination, the vehicles were found to be operated in a dangerous manner causing inconvenience to other road users while carrying recyclable material.

A total of 54 summons were issued out of which 22 were for offences under Section 26 (1) prof the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a vehicle without a licence and 10 under Section 90 of the same Act for operating a vehicle without valid insurance. A further 22 summons were issued under Regulation 34 LN 170/59 for illegal modifications to a vehicle.

All 22 three-wheeled motorcycles were confiscated under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police remind the public to follow road rules and regulations for the safety of all and to avoid the risk of accidents.

    Saman them and then deport them back to Myanmar to face certain death. That is what usually demanded by Msians.

      Surely they know what can be done and what not be done. If they can’t follow our laws here, and do as they like. Sending them back might be the answer. They know they can’t go back, as those most likely are wanted by their government. So, in doing so, sending them back should deter them not to break any laws here.

    Most of the motorbikes used are Honda EX5. These bikes are commonly as 3 wheelers or as bread sellers hanging their breads like lantern festivals.

    Almost everyday saw them here in JB area, sometimes they loaded bigger item on thier cart it’s very dangerous to other, likes they have no attention what so ever for other people. the gov better have to look in this matter before it get worse
