Road ban on goods-carrying vehicles for CNY 2023

Road ban on goods-carrying vehicles for CNY 2023

The usual practice of banning goods-carrying vehicles from the roads during peak festival periods is back this Chinese New Year. The rational behind this is that the big lorries are slow, and their presence during peak festival periods will add to congestion.

The transport ministry and JPJ have announced that the road ban for goods-carrying vehicles will be from January 20 to 21, which is before CNY, and from January 24-25, which is after the public holidays. The move also reduces the risk of accidents, MoT says.

There are three categories of heavy vehicles with varying ban periods – Category 1 is a full ban, Category 2 lorries are banned from midnight to 8am, and Category 3 construction vehicles are from 6pm to 6am within a 25 km radius. See the image above for the detailed description of the type of goods-carrying vehicles.

Not all lorries are banned though, just very heavy ones. Commercial vehicles carrying goods that are not specifically mentioned in the chart above are allowed to use the roads as normal during the ban period.

  • From our driving experience, would we say that heavy vehicles are slow and keep within speed limits? They also do not keep within lanes specified. All because the RTD had not devised systems to beat them in this game. Some such vehicles have unexplainable ‘trade-marks’ on them.

Time to impose strict law for large vehicles. There’s no such thing as government couldn’t find any better solution to this traffic jam madness. Haulage companies are spamming our highways. Federal highway, ldp , npe , kesas , elite and skve.
Exactly how many highways haulage companies wants to continue spam ? We use to have only major 2-3 highways and haulage was able to cater to those demands. Each time a new highway is created , they’re trying to get ahead of us by loading more and more large vehicles on it. And to add to the fact some tried to dismiss the idea that it’s not large vehicles that causes the jam. But studies show heavily proven that they are the ones causing all this problems. We all saw it with our own eyes as well. How this vehicles stall the entire road by switching lanes constantly.
There’s got to be a way. Haulage companies obviously do not want it to be implemented because they would want to use the entire roads for their own purpose while watch our highways all drown with jams. It’s getting worse and unmanageable.
