Foxconn inks deal to supply Mitsubishi with OEM EVs – first model bound for Australia/NZ, due mid-2026

Last month, it was reported that Taiwanese electronics firm Hon Hai Technology Group, better known as Foxconn, was in the midst of finalising a deal with Mitsubishi Motors that would see it become a contract manufacturer by supplying its electric vehicle (EV) to the Japanese carmaker.

Things have now progressed, with Mitsubishi Motors announcing that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies to proceed with further discussions towards a definitive agreement.

Should the deal come through, the EV model to be supplied to Mitsubishi Motors as an OEM model will be developed by Foxtron and manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor, and is set to be introduced in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026.

As previously indicated, this is believed to be the Model B small crossover. The Japanese automaker added that the model is part of the product plan announced last year for Australia, which extends through to 2030.

Foxconn has been eyeing partnerships with Japanese carmakers in a bid to expand its EV business, but has said it will do so only as a contract manufacturer. Despite having released Foxtron-badged concepts, the iPhone maker has made it clear that it doesn’t intend to market its cars under its own name.

The company has been making EVs with local carmaker Yulon Group since 2023 and has already commercialised the Model C crossover – which it first revealed as a study in 2021 alongside the Model E sedan and Model T bus – as the n7 under the latter’s Luxgen brand. Last year, it unveiled another two reference vehicles, the Model D MPV and Model U mid-size bus.
