At the recent Malaysia Autoshow 2025, tertiary students from 10 institutions gathered to share their academic findings on electric vehicles.
The NxGV Challenge 2025 invited institutions of higher learning nationwide to build their own go-kart style EV and test it at the APD track in MAEPS Serdang. The students’ findings will be used as reference material for the government to craft the country’s EV policy, said Perodua, who created the event with Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and the Society of Automotive Engineers Malaysia (SAEM).
“Perodua, being the main strategic partner for this event, thank the institutions of higher learning for participating in this event. Their findings will go a long way of creating a policy that is based on Malaysia’s unique conditions,” said Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
“Aside from sharing our knowledge on EV to Malaysian students and faculty members, this event is also part of our mandate from the government to lead the country’s EV charge under the Malaysia Industrial Master Plan 2030,” he added.
The NxGV Challenge 2025 started in December 2024 with invitations sent to 15 institutions of higher learning including universities, polytechnics and private colleges. Ten best entries were chosen to participate in the challenge. Teams consisted of students and faculty members.
The challenge was divided into two categories – the Static Challenge, which had teams come up with a business plan, cost analysis and design presentation; and the Dynamic Challenge, which saw teams prove their creations in a skid pad test, autocross and acceleration test. Basically, they had to build an electric-powered car and market it, much like what students did in the Perodua Eco-Challenge in the early 2010s.
Zainal said that as a national carmaker, Perodua has a responsibility to include Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem and other local institutions in the EV revolution so that the country is relevant in this technology.
Perodua showed off the final prototype of its EV at MAS 2025 – set for a late-2025 launch, here’s what we know so far.

They cannot share the technology as it is not their technology to share. They need to ask big bro Daihatsu for permission..
