Hot on the tail of Nissan’s new NP300 Navara pick-up truck that was unveiled earlier this month is Mitsubishi’s next-generation Triton, which is set to get a global debut the next few months. Here’s a first look at the new Triton, pics of which were leaked onto a Thai pick-up truck enthusiast forum over the weekend.
Many of the design cues are taken from the Mitsubishi Concept GR-HEV truck that was shown at the 2013 Bangkok Motor Show, although the production car looks a lot tamer than the concept. The front end is dominated by lots of chrome arranged as vertical bars in the front grille.
MMC and Nissan originally planned to co-develop this Triton and the recently-launched Navara, but Nissan product planning chief Andy Palmer told paultan.org last week that the project did not pass feasibility studies and both parties decided to continue developing their pick-up offering separately. More on the divorce here.
Now that you’ve had a sneak peek at the Mitsubishi, which do you prefer – new Triton or new Navara?
