Honda Malaysia has announced on its website that the Honda Jazz and Honda City have been qualified as Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEV). Both of them belong to the 1,001-1,250 kg category, and undercut the corresponding 6.0 litres per 100 km required for EEV classification, with a quoted 5.8 litres per 100 km (see table below).
Under the latest revision of the National Automotive Policy (NAP 2014), carmakers that manufacture EEVs locally are granted “customised incentives” that include grants and tax breaks, which can lead to lower prices for the consumer. However, Honda Malaysia has told us that there are no changes to the retail prices for the Jazz and City, and that their pricing already takes into account the EEV incentives.
In its simplest form, the EEV is defined as a vehicle that meets or betters a set fuel consumption figure for its kerb weight, regardless of its method of propulsion or engine displacement. If a carmaker builds its EEV(s) locally and wishes to take advantage of the incentives, it has to apply for EEV certification from the government, much like Thailand’s Eco Car programme.
It should be noted that hybrid and electric vehicles (EV) are separate from this – as long as a hybrid or EV is locally-assembled (CKD), it is completely duty-exempt, until this policy expires.
Other carmakers that have either established EEV facilities in Malaysia, have been given an EEV manufacturing licence or produce vehicles that have been granted EEV status so far include Perodua (for the Axia), Great Wall (for the M4 and H6) and Mazda (for SkyActiv cars).
The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is expected to reveal more details on EEVs and EEV firms sometime soon – will we then finally know how much carmakers get in terms of EEV incentives?
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
not good, no price reduction
Blame gomen, blame Mamak.Kutty, Blame UMNO, blame Cronies, blame bolehland, blame AP, blame etc….
who cares? u know what the ppl want don’t u?
Janji ditepati!
Errr..well im not really a Honda fan but many cars such as mazdas are qualify for eev but they are priced ridiculously high ..well even the perodua axia is eev but it is priced just like previous viva which is not an eev car
cheaper price? if not, then no need to do the announcement & syok sendiri.
Dun blame honda. Bear in mind that the govrn control the car prices sold in malaysia. If honda lower prices that compete with proton, proton will die faster.
Are you sure? How come the City is priced so close to the Preve? And the Almera cheaper than Preve? If really the gomen wants to protect, they would hv also retained the previous NAP.
Corporates also want to make profit. Don’t think they are ‘victims’ of gomen policies. They don’t invest millions if they can’t make money.
bro, you are comparing prices from different segment. A preve should be compared to civic & sylphy, where preve is just less than 2/3 of their prices!
If cheap prices with max 4 years installments, you still cannot afford ma. The long yrs installment is just to compensate the high prices. If you can afford to buy cash then it is a different matter. With high prices of the cars and cheap installments makes malaysia to be the highest car owners per capita in ASEAN. So why should the government reduce the car prices. Buat menyemak jalan saja.
if the car price is halved, and installment period is halved as well, wouldn’t the monthly installment remain around the same? so same people can afford the same car only more or less. imo cheaper car is better than anything. even cheaper petrol. huhu
“However, Honda Malaysia has told us that there are no changes to the retail prices for the Jazz and City, and that their pricing already takes into account the EEV incentives.”
I cannot brain this.
So they’re saying all the honda’s before they were subsidizing for us?
Exactly. Honda, I thought you were better than Toyota on things like this. Apparently not.
Hahahahaheehehehehooohooohohoho
Rakyat kene kencing lagi.
It’s similar to the now lower fuel price but you can never see price reduction in everyday goods.
Honda being truly Malaysian…
Good to see you’re growing up. Unless competition sets in, no one can force price reduction. It’s called free market. If you don’t agree don’t buy.
I guess this article caught out attention just to let us down :(
well, just have continue to drive my 11yrs old car until the gomen tells me to change.
unless the buying stops, the price will not go down.
Good job Honda Malaysia. Get all sort of tax exemption and grants, but given non to the end consumer. Asalkan bukan Proton!!
But… The old City which was not an EEV had a similar price… So, Honda, what’s the real story?
Don’t know full story, but remember last time they want to propose tax free car for first time buyer (vote buying)? It made me paid attention to tax paid:
Vios TRD: 90,597.50
Langkawi: 68,569.86
Tax: 22,027.64
City V: 88,236.00
Langkawi: 73,626.00
Tax: 14,610.00
Same 1.5L, same CKD Malaysia. Source from carbase. Does this count as EEV tax rebates? What about from before?
Proof that abolishing duties may not necessarily means companies will reduce their prices. In the end People will still pay high prices and Government will have lower revenue.
Honda will not reduce their prices as it is selling well. They will have bigger margins and maybe will have more rooms to give discounts / rebates etc to kill the competition.
Don’t you just love free market? :-)
HM, this ads not right. Something goes wrong.
If u told rakyat that No price reduction since u have install 6 airbags, rear aircond, auto cruise …. Still make sense, if compare to empty vios G selling same price.
But to claim yours with EEV but no impact to consumer? Must be a joke.
TALK = NO TALK
Just propoganda to tell Malayians that their can f.c. is canggih. Nothing more.
“price still remain” <—— lol….
Whats the point of making such announcement if there is no price reduction for these models? Are you taking us Malaysian for fools?
So? What’s the point?
Where is my powerful Suprima S ?
what about CKD bmw f30 320d, f10 520d.. 4.7 litre per 100km only
Go ahead and buy. Later vomit blood to bear maintenance cost.
QUalified for EEV but no discount on car price?
Still want songlap some more.
Wow.. that really hurts… at least put some discount like a few hundred also tak apa.
hahaha it’ll be unfair for those who bought these cars beforehand if the price is reduced lol
Go la, form “Early bird car owner association”, then protest govt don’t reduce car price. Bunch of butthurt suckers!
So you mean to say, Najib’s 30% car price reduction promise will never come true because ppl will butthurt if price drop? AH jib kor.. why? or maybe this commentator lying.. catch him!
well in the very first place why would anyone trust what the chicken says?
Rakyat should show their gratitude to b.n. gomen by giving them 30% reduction in votes, this we have the power to give them ‘special discount’
H announced it probably as a marketing tool to say that the G has deemed these cars as efficient..although I think its futile
EEV is only imaginary tax break.
Check back this post: http://paultan.org/2014/12/04/khairy-jamaluddins-proposed-youth-first-vehicle-scheme/
Axia with EEV incentive taxed 10.22 – 10.86 %
Iriz without EEV incentive taxed 7.40 – 8.62 %
Axia, supposed with EEV incentive, ended up taxed higher?
Proton, maybe got special “kroni” incentive, get taxed less.
That is why this is call customized, just like buying a house, customized price for certain category .
5.8 liter for 100km on highway or in city drive? My Fiesta can do 5.0 to 5.5 liter for 100km on highway.
Seriously ? Can show us how you get 5.8 litre per 100 km? Pure highway @ 80kph ?
In regards to the EEV looks like Honda Malaysia is pocketing the extra profits for themselves.
For the new City i have achieved 5.4L/100km before at cruising speed of 110km/h on the highway or 18.6km/L
This like talk = no talk ! Honda Malaysia trying to cheat on consumer! What kind of announcement is this? BULL SHIT!
So you are saying that the “customised incentives” is for Honda and not the consumer… Say lah.
Jilaga honda, juai keleta manyak mahal tapi kualiti macam hampas.. sy punya City side mirror pun suda jem, tak bole bengkok, motor suda kong. itu rubber fuel cap pun suda putus.. apa ini?
Ini powa of bermimpi. :D
No eev… Same price, after eev same price. What it means, stupid malaysian pay ti someone that will pocket even more marney with higher profit margin.
so hw much price reduction?
If we get incentives and we refuse to pass some to end customers, we are labelled ‘greedy’.
I cannot believe honda malaysia selling at EE price before it get the status and tax exemption. ..r they selling at lose?….
Now.. After Toyota .. Honda start to treat customers as sohai.
Is this 5.8L/100km based on city drive in KL road / traffic condition or strictly highway?
So what other cars qualify for EEV? I’m guessing not the Civic, Accord & Odyssey. And which agency or company validates/calculates the fuel consumption?
No price reduction…. Ignored…
If enough people ignore them, surely price will reduce….
When the buying stop, the killing can too…
If we work together, we can win this
so actually before announced as EEV, Jazz and City are damn cheap! LOL kesian to those who gonna buy the cars now
announce = no announce. makes no difference
Toyota Camry bukan EEV sebab FC 8.0l/100km
Honda, the power of dreams. Buyers dream on that Honda will pass the savings to you. Honda, Toyota same same only. Only good at milking consumers.
Or EEV doesn’t really make much of a difference.
In the end, effect is the same, Malaysians have to pay ludicrous prices for cars.
I’m not sure. But maybe those less popular brands like the China brands when they get EEV status they could sell their cars at jaw-drop prices. Let’s see
Farted but no sound but still damn smelly…
cakap banyak banyak ini syed mokhtar, tapi harga x kurang, celaka budak ini
Kalau tak mampu tak payah beli!!!!!!
memang x mampu…si khairy ini cakap banyak tapi hanya tau berjoli dengan nori….mana kereta tax free saya?
This is same meaning of Lanpa = PaLan, nothing change
if our Ringgit foreign exchange value keep perfoming worst (now at RM3.5) sooner or later all CBU and maybe CKD cars prices going up…
If EEV fc unit shown is in km/l and not l/100km then proton qualify haha
Cannnn 18km/l why not
so honda makes a bigger profit and says they forsaw they would get this eev when they first release the car price
Please lah, dont insult my brain
Hahahhahaha.better migrate laa.here in UAE my lexus is like a camry in Malaysia
So NAP’s EEV incentive just a lip service…frankly, the rakyat still pays exorbitantly high for cars.
so what is your point to proudly announced that ur jazz n city have been declared as EEV when not a single attractive price offer can be given to customer esp the loyal one? where the EEV incentive had been chanelled? kereta jimat tenaga utk org yg hendak berjimat bkn utk org kaya dan byk duit
I read somewhere that the claimed FC is tested under controlled lab conditions, fueling pure nad premium petrol, a lot of items reduced from the car to make it lighter, aircond switched off, etc. This is totally not practical in terms of real life. many car makers have claimed their F/C to be say 8l/100km but in real life, it probably hit 11l/100km due to traffic conditions, weather, fuel used, etc. And if the actual F/C can be obtained in real life, and it can qualify for cheaper price (tax exemptions) then what for your advertise your “achievements?” syiok sendiri?
The truth is HONDA MALAYSIA is taking a increased profit margin with all this incentives by the government. Per car the profit is highest in MALAYSIA for HONDA. So guys this is the POWER OF DREAMS.
My 2009 Alts 1.8G currently logs 8.4L/100km (KL city driving, jam 2 hours everyday going to office and back home). So, it must be an EEV too!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!
You look at the metre panel?
That’s not accurate calculation
Don’t think Gov will reduce car price/tax because not only local jaguh kampung will lose money but also :
a) Banker(lower price means shorter loan, saves interest too)
b) AP Cronies(why buy a recond when new is cheap plus c/w warranty)
c) Automotive parts suppliers(direct & indirect)
Gov won’t allow HONDA(& others brands) to reduce price…
All automotives pricing dictated by MITI/MOF. All brand need to submit, get approval before launching(new/facelift).
I would like to know what is the method of testong for the fc. Is it based on the manufacturer’s data or real world testing, highway drive or city drive?

The main initiative of EEV is reduce CO2 emission and mitigate climate change due to greenhouse effect. Rakyat will have a healthy life due lesser CO2 in our atmosphere and kindly stop killing this planet. And CO2 comes not from car but also from chain process from raw oil from ground to refined petrol. So reduce of consumption of fuel of EEV help to lower CO2 coming from chain process.
Recently we had a worst flood in east coast could be partly due to climate change but yet to be confirmed by researchers. The damage reported to cost the Govt billions of dollar losses and not include human lives, live stocks and agriculture.
Instead of Govt fork these billions of loss for next big flood problems, why not fork this amount by reduce tax EEV and open the EEV market.
This EEV qualification is only benefit to crony.
not really for rakyat.
Years ago my friend bought a hyundai matrix. After a few months later he got a suprise check for a few thousand ringgit from his dealer. Apparent the gov gave a tax rebate as the matrix was classified as mpv. The dealer could have swallowed the money but did’nt.
