The new BMW 118i Sport is now available in Malaysia, with a starting price of RM188,800 (OTR without insurance). BMW Malaysia has just confirmed the news, following a Facebook post that recently revealed the new variant’s arrival.
Joining the RM219,800 BMW 120i M Sport, the new 118i base variant now becomes the most affordable brand-new BMW in Malaysia money can buy, undercutting the previous BMW 318i LCI which retails at RM208,800.
But instead of featuring a lower-tuned version of the 1.6 litre four-pot in the 120i, the 118i features – for the first time in the 1 Series’ history – a 1.5 litre BMW TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine – the very engine that powers the new BMW 318i LCI as well.
Power figures for the new 118i are rated at 136 hp at 4,400 rpm and 220 Nm from 1,250 to 4,300 rpm. This premium hatchback can perform its century sprint in 8.7 seconds, while its combined fuel consumption figure is rated at 5.1 litres per 100 km. As with the majority of BMW models in Malaysia, the new 118i variant gets an eight-speed Steptronic torque converter automatic transmission as standard.
Dressed in a Sport Line kit, the exterior of the car features sporty bumpers with gloss black highlights and unique side skirts. Two-tone 17-inch star-spoke wheels are specified as standard, wrapped in 225/45R17 rubbers. As mentioned yesterday, the wheels are an inch down on the 18-inch M Sport wheels of the 120i, but fortunately, the full-LED headlights are maintained on this variant.
Inside, the BMW 118i gets power-adjustable sport seats upholstered in Sensatec leather, gloss black trim with matte red highlights, a multi-function sports steering wheel, engine push-start button, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, auto headlamps and wipers as well as a BMW Radio Professional with iDrive operating system and a 6.5-inch free-standing iDrive display screen.
Safety features for the new BMW 118i include six airbags as standard (two front, two side, two curtain), a Dynamic Stability Control system (DSC) with ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) on top of ISOFIX child seat anchors in the rear seats.
As available with the new F48 BMW X1 and BMW 3 LCI, the new base 1 Series variant also gets BMW Malaysia’s recently-introduced ConnectedDrive services. Three highlights of the feature are included on the 118i Sport, being the Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices and Remote Services — missing is the Concierge Services that we saw on the higher-spec 3 Series and X1.
A SIM card is built into the vehicle to enable data connectivity, allowing drivers to utilise the three new functions, which we have detailed for you before.
The new BMW 118i Sport will be available in five body colours options, including Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey, Crimson Red, Midnight Blue and Alpine White. The car will be available for viewing in BMW showrooms nationwide from November 25, 2015, onwards. Included in the RM188,800 (OTR without insurance) price tag is BMW’s new five years, unlimited mileage warranty and free scheduled service programme.

Too many ugly looking models at the lower end and overpriced…why 1.5 liter wit 3 cylinder so expensive
BMW Malaysia is just wasting their time with all these new models. In Malaysia, 90% of BMW buyers look at the 3, 5or 7 series. BMW Malaysia should just concentrate on their bread and butter. Instead of launching 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 series and all the X1, X2, X4 and all the many Xs, they should concentrate on 3, 5 and 7 and try to reduce its prices.
Same with Mercedes Malaysia. Wasting time with all sorts of models. The bread and butter is still C, E and S. All the nonsense A, B and the CLA, CLS GLA etc etc is just a waste of time.
something tells me youre not ceo material.
yes you’re right.
Top management doesn’t think that way.
Here a thumbs down for you. People want options and BMW is doing just that. On a side note it looks like BMW Malaysia took out cruise control and replaced it with the new ConnectedDrive service. Normally with LCI models, it makes sense to add more standard kit to entice customers but this move seems like a step back.
Something tells me you are an old fart. Never look forward. Go ahead and keep staying in your 1950s.

1.5L car for such price? Better buy Myvi.
Yup myvi suits your image
Ya ya my quad exhaust myvu can tarpau 328i anytime
Mazda 6 or this ??
Mazda 6 la bro.
Rich fellas buy this 3 cylinder ugly thing for their 2nd mistress.
I think by today’s standards, the mistress will return the car to you and find a better sugar daddy….
Mazda6 no turbo. No power.
But more space, better design in & out and most of all better RV. Sam Loo will agree
Mazda6 for peasants, BMW for riches
No turbo, yes… but Mazda 6 2.5 has more power than this and better specs since it’s a full spec car… and also looks a lot cooler than this fixed cacat 1 series…
Mazda6 diesel got turbo
I’ll take a rear wheel drive car anyday(ie the 1 series over the Mazda 6 unless i in need of the interior space)
Get the Toyota Camry Hybrid while stock last, that is the best D-segment car you can get in Malaysia now.
It has got the best of all. Good on driving, fuel efficiency, comfort, features, value for money, reliability and most importantly, the good RV because it will cost 225k next year.
Very misleading on the 118i/120i as compared to pre-facelift 116i/118i . BMW should be consistent as now the LCI 118i is only 136hp compared to pre-LCI 118i that has 170hp
Civic 1.5Turbo more hp & cheaper too
But boring handling
And ahbeng honda owner club members.
Can dye hair yellow, green, purple and pink. Honda owner profile. Instant VIP member to Jinjang and Sri Kembangan
this 118i is rear wheel drive compared to the upcoming turbo civic which are still fwd. Unless you dont care abt handling…..take the civic…its cheaper but to those who dont need much space & value a car handling, the 1 series is the way to go.
If cannot afford cannot la. No need to go mental every time a premium car maker releases a new car.
Y so serious? Just trolling Lol
ewwwwww..look like china car…
Or looks like a Korean girl before plastic surgery
Selling RM130K in 90% of the countries worldwide but comes to Dr M Proton land becomes starting RM208K with insurance. All thanks to the ego Dr M and his Proton pride. One man versus 30 million people suffering. If you remove proton you remove the suffering.
Ah fat
I don’t think the Govt will reduce taxes with the removal of Proton. With such taxes collected, do you think they will care to give you back anything? With or without Proton, those taxes are here to stay.
with that price tag we can buy 1 honda civic + 1 honda city
you can also buy 188,000 jambu’s!
And 100 bike?
this is one oddball bmw…so much wrong with it…
Such as?
Where is the manual variant?
In your dad’s stable
Bmw plz maintain ur sporty image, no need think abt fuel efficiency, if ppl want better mileage, they can go to ur diesel range..why wanna come with 3 cylinder…hmm not acceptable..
Front wheel drive or rear wheel?
Rear
This article is so difficult to read. So many commas used. Hope Paul Tan maintains those editors with usually good quality writing skills and discard those contributing poorly written articles. Yes, this 3 potter car is overpriced indeed! Is BMW Malaysia trying to kill themselves or what?
I wonder which one is a better car, the 175k Camry Hybrid or this 189k 1-series? After all the Toyota will never be a BMW, and this BMW is not a Toyota.
Two different segments dude, you should be comparing the A class with the 1er and the Camry with the Accord. Price is subjective to a person’s wants and needs.
You are right. That’s why I decided to go with A250 then this 1-er….really looks yerrrr…

Buy the one that makes your heart sing. If your hearts never sings when it comes to cars then stick with the toyota.
Better top up a bit and get a pre-owned 3 series.
Vibrator on 4 wheels. Good for ladies who need a good bottom massage driving this 3 cylinders.
Chris aaron, shouldnt this also wualify for green vehicle tax exemption like the merc c class? And hence be cheaper? hope bmw aint ripping msians off again
After 7 years, time prove that this car is having good resell value.
189k when it is new and now still holding 60-70k firm.
Compare same era 3 series and 5 series..
Around 80-90k can get already.
