2017 World Car Awards – top three finalists list out

The 2017 World Car Awards moves on to its next stage, with the announcement of the top three finalists in six award categories at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. Following this, the winners of each category will be announced at the New York International Auto Show in April.

The six categories are as follows: World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car, World Car Design of the Year and World Urban Car. That last one is a new category addition to the awards.

Selecting the top three finalists in each category was done by secret ballot, where a 75-person jury will evaluate each candidate before casting their vote. The jury is made up of 75 international automotive journalists from 23 countries.

In 2016, the Mazda MX-5 was awarded World Car of the Year, besting the B9 Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. The roadster also secured another award that year – the World Car Design of the Year – which also included the Jaguar XE and the CX-3.

Other winners in 2016 include the Audi R8 Coupe for the World Performance Car award, the G11 BMW 7 Series for the World Luxury Car award, and Toyota Mirai for the World Green Car award.

So, what models made it through? Here’s the full list of finalists in the World Car Awards:

Wow! Volkswagen Tiguan one of the contenders? I am considering getting it but not certain whether the DSG issues are completely over. I had a not very pleasant ownership experience with the Jetta.

Tiguan shouldn’t give much problem as the DSG are wet (transmission oil immersed) type.
Non like those in Polo TSI, Jetta or Passat that are dry type.

No wonder VW group sold more vehicles than everyone. Take a look at 2017 World Car of the Year Nominee. It include Audi Q5 & VW Tiguan. Am sure their main stream bread & butter Golf, Polo/Vento, Passat, Audi A3/4/5 sold by the thousands.

The one that I mentioned: ‘similarly good to you’ is there; yes, the Tiger.

Despite its seemingly ‘superlow ground clearance’, I still support the British to be the best design.

The futuristic Milo tin is ugly to some of us.

World Car Of The Year is not about spending money lah. You think, its like Malaysia ah? The judges are from UK, US, Italy, Korea, Japan, Germany, Spain, France and many other countries and you dont even know the judges until the judging day. So never easy to ‘buy’ the judges, unlike in Malaysia.
