2017 World Car Awards – finalists list gets announced

We’re moving on to the next stage of the 2017 World Car Awards with the announcement of the finalists in each category of the automotive awards programme.

This year, car manufacturers will duke it out in six categories – World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car, World Car Design of the Year and World Urban Car – with the latter being a new addition to the awards.

Deciding upon the winners is the duty of a 75-person jury consisting of international automotive journalists, who will evaluate each candidate before casting their vote by way of a secret ballot.

The finalists will then be further shortlisted to just the top three in each category during the Geneva Motor Show, and all will be revealed come the New York International Auto Show in April this year.

Last year, Mazda took home the top prize when the MX-5 was crowned the 2016 World Car of the Year, edging out the B9 Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. The roadster also took home the World Car Design of the Year award as well. Other winners in 2016 include the Audi R8 Coupe (World Performance Car award), the G11 BMW 7 Series (World Luxury Car award), Toyota Mirai (World Green Car award).

Did your favourite car make the cut? Well, there’s only one way to find out. Without further ado, here are the finalists of the World Car Awards:

2017 World Car of the Year

2017 World Luxury Car

2017 World Performance Car

      • The sales figure (same price range) will tell you which is the car of the year. Not this fake gimmick.

Even caplang Skoda is in the list of Best Car. Skoda was the laughing stock of Europe 15 years ago.

See how they have transformed? Time to sack the deadwood in Proton and bring back Proton to its glory in the 80s.

Of the 12,000 staff, half need to be sacked. this is what Skoda did. See where it is today

Whether our favourite car make the cut or not does not matter here. I am just waiting for Kunta & john to Bash anything & everything they dislike. It is more interesting than reading FACTS.

    Vote:

COTY: None of the above. VW should be disqualified for its dishonesty and moral failure. Alternates:
    Audi S3 – perfect lines, 4.7 sec 0-100
BMW 6-series Gran Coupe – can’t believe how good it looks, and 4 doors
    Mazda 3 > Civic
Maybe a Merc? Winning on interiors.
Volvo S90. Come on, Thor’s headlights, real wood, steel, utter class.
Hmm. I’d go for the S90 Volvo.

    Luxury car: Genesis G90 – value, 5.0 V8, solid.
Performance car: Tesla P90D – beats everything there, objectively.
    Green car: Ioniq.
    Urban car: Electric scooter.
Design of the year: Yawn, who came up with that list? See COTY above.
