A new special edition of the Autohome AirTop roof tent has been launched in conjunction with MINI. The Italian specialist in automobile roof tents teamed up with MINI to develop a two-man roof tent designed to be mounted perfectly onto the roof of an F60 MINI Countryman.
The roof tent comes available in black or white, in keeping with the contrasting roof and mirror caps of the new Countryman. It looks like a conventional roof box when closed, with fibreglass housing and aerodynamic lines for minimal air resistance and noise.
Measuring 2.10 metres in length and 1.30 metres in width, the tent is mounted onto the roof rails, which come as standard with the new Countryman, without tools and in just a few easy moves. Opening it is simply a matter of releasing the safety clasps – two at the front and one at the rear. The tent superstructure is then automatically raised by means of four gas pressure springs.
The interior height of top floor room is 94 cm. With a stable cover and outer walls in high-quality fabric, the tent is not only rain proof but also offers optimum ventilation properties as well as a high level of heat and noise insulation, its maker claims.
Inside, there is a high-density mattress with cotton cover, two doors and two windows with zips, close-meshed mosquito nets at all openings and a battery-operated LED interior light, as well as luggage nets and pockets to stow personal items. A solid aluminium ladder provides access. The tent is described as the “perfect solution to outdoor adventure sleeping”.
The second-generation Countryman was launched in Malaysia last month. Two front-wheel drive variants are offered here – the 136 hp/220 Nm Cooper and 192 hp/280 Nm Cooper S for RM239,888 and RM269,888 respectively. This tent was displayed at the local launch event, so MINI Malaysia should be able to assist if you want to sleep on top of your car.
