New Mazda CX-5 shown by local dealers before debut

Just a few days after second-generation Mazda CX-5 was spotted on Malaysian roads, local dealers have now uploaded more photos of the Honda CR-V rival. This is likely the Malaysian-spec CX-5 destined for our local market, although we’ll have to wait for an official launch to confirm anything.

In terms of exterior equipment, the CX-5 gets LED headlights (including LED DRLs), LED fog lamps and LED rear combination taillights. We also see two different wheel designs, with the smaller multi-spoke ones likely the 17-inch option, and the five twin-spoke the larger 19-inch set.

Looking at the exterior badging, the Malaysian-spec CX-5 will be offered with both SkyActiv-G petrol (2.0 and 2.5 litre) and SkyActiv-D diesel (2.2 litre) engines. The engines are paired with a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission, and in the case of the diesel, all-wheel drive is available as well.

The SUV also comes with the SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics vehicle motion control technologies, which includes brand’s G-Vectoring Control (GVC) system, which we have detailed for you, here.

As the first-gen CX-5 was offered with Mazda’s i-Activsense suite of safety and driver assistance systems, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say the new one will get it as well. Expect the same number of airbags (six) as what was offered on the soon-to-be-replaced CX-5.

Moving inside, we see the revised dashboard layout of the CX-5, with a free-standing display screen linked to the MZD Connect infotainment system. There’s also plenty of familiar bits, like the dual-zone air-conditioning system, Commander Control, steering wheel design and leather upholstery is shown in some of the photos.

It shouldn’t be too long before the new CX-5 makes its debut, with Bermaz revealing earlier that a launch could take place in September or October. The SUV will be a locally-assembled (CKD) model from Mazda Malaysia’s Inokom plant in Kulim, which is said to be upgraded to be able to paint premium Mazda colours like Soul Red Metallic (Soul Red Crystal as well?) and Machine Gray.

A good looking SUV but I suspect it has its work cut out in the form of the Honda CRV.

If I were to choose between the two today, I would go for the top spec CRV for the Honda Sensing tech and the 1.5l turbo.

CKD good. Price should be good also… now if only we knew the price of certain xHR which is supposed to be around soon too. Wonder if this will launch first or that xHR thing. This is a segment above that xH so naturally should worth way more than the xHR.

The Specs are competitive to CRV, even lower varaints has Sensing Technology, unline CRV only available in Top Spec.

Junk car after filtered by Mazda Malaysia and telling Malaysian its mod to suit Malaysian. Thinner steel material can kemek when use ur butt to press the door and bounce back. Same goes to UMW all junk cars by UMW cut here cut there and assume Malaysian has junk brain. Probably said suit Malaysian cause Malaysian’s life is not as worthy.

    Honda CR-V 1.5L Turbo 2WD – RM155,700
    Peugeot 3008 1.6L Turbo 2WD – RM142,888
    Mazda CX-5 – ??? (CKD)

Now waiting Bermaz to announce the CX-5 price. If expensive than 3008 is plain stupid. Japan brand overprice? We will see.

Nowadays japs are selling their car with premium especially when Malaysian feels that they have better RV when in fact their Built quality is not as good as continentals, thus making them NOT VALUE FOR MONEY

Bermaz already lost their customer with their greedy strategy instead of focus bringing good value to consumers…cx5, not relevant anymore

  • I’ve made a call to the Mazda agent and managed to get some detail on the estimated price and variants.

Apparently they are 5 variants according to what the agent told me. There are about rm5k increase in price to the current price of the lowest specs CX-5.

Mazda should continue to offer cars that are in the same price bracket with the rest of the Japanese brands. No point trying to go premium as who in their right mind would pay BMW or Mercs money to buy a Mazda? Be realistic Mazda.

  • No Turbo no fun.. CRV is winning in this segment.. for those who are more “adventurous” might go for 3008 or Tiguan

In 2013, when Bermaz first CKD the CX5, the price range was RM137k to RM154k…now 5 years later, the price shoot up to RM155k to 180k(rumoured).Crazy. Not value for money anymore. At these prices, it should be CBU. At RM134k to RM154k can still compete with Honda but now totally out.
