The Volvo XC40 makes its official launch debut at the 2018 Singapore Motor Show, with two variants being offered – T5 Inscription and T5 R-Design. The variants are being offered at a special launch price of SG$190,000 (RM568,376) for the former, and SG$205,000 (RM613,256) for the latter – prices include COE.
Both feature the same T5 all-wheel drive powertrain, which consists of a Drive-E 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out 247 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The mill is mated to an AW TG-81SC eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission and AWD system.
In terms of design, the XC40 doesn’t stray very far from the 40.1 concept revealed in May 2016, and features familiar cues like the ‘Thor’s hammer’ LED daytime running lights. It also boasts an interior with a number of nifty storage options, which take into account how city dwellers use their cars on a daily basis.
This particular unit on display comes equipped with the R-Design trim kit, which includes a R-Design grille with high-gloss black insert, C-pillar emblem, front and rear skid plates and dual integrated tailpipes. There’s also a set of 20-inch double spoke matte black diamond cut alloy wheels.
Inside, you’ll find Cutting Edge Aluminium inlays paired with Black Stone upholstery and Lava textile floor and door inserts. As part of the R-Design kit, there’s a badged, perforated leather-clad steering wheel and gear knob. Standard equipment includes a dual-zone climate control system, 12-inch driver display and Sensus infotainment system.
The T5 Momentum – not on display at the show at the time – does away with most of the aesthetic bits you get with the R-Design, and gets a vertical multi-slat grille and a single tailpipe instead.
For us here in Malaysia, we might have to wait until the third quarter of this year before we see the compact SUV make its debut. However, the XC40’s larger sibling, the XC60, is slated to be launched real soon. Which of the two Volvo SUVs are you looking forward to the most?
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
I went to the thai launch of the XC60. Apart from that lovely display, the base model was very stripped down and just didnt justify the price. The XC40 looks interesting tho.. 247hp?
Cant wait P1 Boyue 247hp ! Wow

Contra with:
Highest cost of living.
Highest car prices (which ties in with lowest car ownership per person).
Highest house prices.
Highest medical cost.
Highest retirement cost (ekceli no retirement, old still work cleaning foodcourts).
Highest stress & pressure.
Highest ’14th floor’ rate.
Highest living amongst foreigners.
Highest level of dissatisfaction.
Yeah… i think here is still better.
RM10 Nasi campur + Kuah kari. Go up, takdak turun…. no good.
really? would you care (at least) to check BMW Singapore website first before making stupid comments. its not that hard.
Buy CX3 better. More class, edgy and premium feel
ALAMAK! don’t talk about class here la… Mazda hasn’t reach the Volvo level of premium feel but soon they’ll be better…
OMG,
Trying to compare a Donkey ( CX3) with an Arabian Horse ( XC40) . This is incomparable at all and wasting time !!
Even Q1 , X1 are way better than plastic feeling non premium CX 3
CX3 is tiny inside. The volvo is almost the size of the CX5 so you shd compare this if anything
P1, Geely, VolvoCar, VolvoTruck, Mesidis, Lotus > all
Ohsemm Msia price same same RM190,000
SG car price most exp in universe.
Nice Geely
Omg… that is so expensive! Meaning that this will be in the same price range as BMW X1 & Mercedes Benz GLA class.
Haih! Was hoping it will be around the RM140k mark instead =(
Expensive it may be but more importantly people are still buying based on vehicle launches.
Would be really interesting to see a shootout between the x1 and xc40.
RM150-ish, I buy. Otherwise, will go for Subaru XV.
