Lynk & Co sold 120,414 cars, established 221 retail outlets in 2018 – first European stores to open in 2020

Geely sub-brand Lynk & Co reported sales of 120,414 vehicles in its home country of China for 2018, and thus claimed it has become the world’s fastest-growing brand. From the marque’s establishment three years ago, it has opened 221 retail outlets in China.

“Three years ago, Lynk & Co started off as just an idea founded on principles unheard of within the industry. These sales numbers for a totally new brand are exceptional and proof that the focus on a simple experience from start to finish for young urbanites is working,” said Lynk & Co CEO Alain Visser.

The young brand will be focusing on making inroads into the European market, with the first stores on the continent set to open in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Stockholm, London and Barcelona, beginning in 2020.

Locally, the complete range comprising Lynk & Co 01, 02 and 03 models have been spotted plying Malaysian roads by our readers, and these were marked as left-hand drive units, likely for the evaluation of right-hand-drive conversions. It remains to be seen whether these development units will turn out to be for export only, or for local Malaysian sale.

Currently, Lynk & Co production takes place in China, with plans expansion to Ghent, Belgium and South Carolina, USA. All three models are underpinned by Compact Modular Architecture which also forms the basis of the Volvo XC40, and all are available with 1.5 three-cylinder or 2.0 litre four-pot turbo petrol engines.

Proton was born in 1985. Geely was born in 1997. So Proton is more senior. Lynk and Co even better….2015

Why is Geely having so much of success and expertise in car industry when it is 12 years younger than Proton?

I cannot understand why one company can sell 1.5 million cars and another company can sell only 50,000 cars.

Somemore Lynk established just recently can sell 120,414

Why does Geely make USD$30 billion (RM100 billion) in profits last year and Proton makes RM4 mil in losses per day?

Proton also could have marketed our cars to all over the world and China market as well. World markets was open to Proton all these years.

Infact, it was harder for Geely to compete in China as there are more than 10 local car companies in China competing with Geely. Proton only had Perodua to compete with.

So why are both companies so different?

im sure you know the answer somewhere.. but who cares anymore.. Proton is now part of the Geely group of companies.. and if you look at all the other companies in the group, they are all setup for success. Proton is definitely way better off now as compared to before as a 100% GLC.

good question. maybe you could start a research paper on it, get it published in some journal or send it for peer review or something, anything is better than posting that as a rhetorical question just to insinuate P1, day in day out pointlessly. unless you (and your other stupid dupes) actually live for this kind of jackass-ery, that shows what kind of a good-for-nothing lowlife you are….

China workers work hard. When they want to achieve something, they WILL work hard everyday to achieve great results.

They also don’t syok sendiri or take 20 meetings to decide on 1 single issue.

Now, with a China CEO helping out Proton, the company will be great. All the workers and salesmen will work hard and have a great attitude towards its customers

        Betul tu.

One of the people you’ve described is commenting here on PT.

John always says that P1 will be successful (before Geely took over), but in the end they make losses

10 years from now, Jipunis fanbois will be driving Chinese brand cars, handphones, home electrical appliances & perhaps even luxury goods. They’ll be praising these Chinese brands & be the advocates. They’ll conveniently forget how hardcore they supported the Jipunis cars today.

They’ll teach their children & grandkids to buy Chinese just as their very own parents taught them to buy Jipunis today.

Jipunis products are no longer what they were back in the 80s & 90s. So many have moved manufacturing to China. Jipunis R&D is conservative hence slow compared to Chinese or even Western standard. The Japanese economy will never recover out of it’s late 90s slum. The only reason they’re staying afloat is that the country’s tax revenue is enough to cover the loan interest payments. But with an ageing population, the situation may be very different in 10 years time. The age of innovative Japanese products is ending. I don’t think Japan will retake it’s crown back & will slowly lose out to China.
