Proton X70 CBU six-speed automatic transmission warranty extended to five years, unlimited mileage

Proton X70 CBU six-speed automatic transmission warranty extended to five years, unlimited mileage

Warranty coverage for the six-speed torque converter automatic transmission of the fully imported (CBU) version of the Proton X70 has been revised with immediate effect, according to a statement sent by Proton to its dealers.

The X70 has been covered by a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty from launch, however it was discovered by owners that the model’s transmission warranty coverage was for three years or 60,000 km. Proton has now increased this to match the five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

In order for the warranty to remain valid, customers need to adhere to the manufacturer’s prescribed servicing interval of six months or 10,000 km, and warranty replacement of transmission components will be carried out. There will be specific part numbers for vehicles that have covered less than three years or 60,000 km, and a different one for those which have exceeded the time and mileage marks.

The revision of the warranty policy for the Proton X70 refers to the gearbox, and does not mention other mechanical components such as those for the engine.

This update covers only the earlier, fully imported version of the Proton X70, as the SUV received a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in CKD guise from the 2020 model year onwards. This revision for the CKD model brought a 15 Nm-higher peak torque figure as well as 13% lower fuel consumption, and also dropped the sole AWD variant from the CBU line-up.

Wow so the China version have better warranty than the Malaysian one which the DCT only covers 3 years according to the instruction manual of the X50.

The 6AT got extended warranty after a lengthy 3 year aftermarket study on customers feedback. If you bought the first batch CKD with DCT, don’t worry as it might also get the same treatment in 2023.

Good that they did this as the CBU 6 speeder has jerking issues even after you updated the TCU.

Jerking from shift shock when the brake bands don’t work properly in the planetary gearbox.

  • Good luck waiting for a replacement, however.

    • Torque converter ATs are quite durable, so replacement needed would be a very rare thing.

The problem is with the brake bands in the planetary gearbox.

Good. But only after a bunch of owners sent lawyer letter to Proton, demanding this issu. Good thing this works.

I bought an X70 CBU in 2019. Today I find out my engine mounting is damaged and the Service Centre needs about RM2K to repair! Next month will be my 5th Year anniversary! What’s wrong with Proton denying me this warranty claim? This car is not worth the hassle and I feel the Service personnel are not up to standard and they look for minor faults for easy profit! Needless to say I’m gonna sell this car!
