2022 Honda HR-V launched in Indonesia – four variants, 1.5 litre NA and turbo versions; fr RM104,738

The 2022 Honda HR-V has launched in Indonesia in four variants; three are specified with the 1.5 litre petrol naturally aspirated VTEC engine producing 121 PS and 145 Nm torque, while the fourth, range-topping version is equipped with a 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo producing 177 PS and 240 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a continuously variable transmission.

This contrasts against the HR-V launched in Thailand, where the B-segment crossover has gone on sale as an e:HEV hybrid. This features a 1.5 litre Atkinson-cycle engine rated at 105 hp and 127 Nm of torque from 4,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm, and is combined with two electric motors powered by a lithium-ion battery. Total system output for the Thai-market HR-V is 131 hp and 253 Nm.

Kicking off proceedings for the HR-V range in Indonesia is the HR-V S variant at 355.9 million rupiah (RM104,738), which starts with the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance systems. Exterior equipment on the S variant is comprised of full-LED headlamps with LED DRLs and 17-inch alloy wheels, while inside the HR-V S provides a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster as well as a seven-inch touchscren display audio head unit with smartphone connectivity and a four-speaker setup.

Added conveniences include a walk-away auto lock function and rear seat reminder, while safety kit includes hill start assist, hill descent control, vehicle stability assist, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electric parking brake and auto brake hold.

Next up at 379.9 million rupiah (RM111,798) is the HR-V E, which packs the base equipment specification of the HR-V S, and adds remote engine start, painted foglamp and front bumper garnish, shift paddles, auto-folding exterior mirrors with LED turn signals, and a second-row power outlet.

Inside the HR-V E, leather-fabric upholstery is applied to its Combi seats, and is joined by a part-leather trim for the steering wheel and a leather gear shift knob. Rear seat occupants additionally get air-conditioning vents as well as a rear seat armrest with cupholders.

Another level up is the HR-V E SE, priced at 399.9 million rupiah (RM117,701). Here, the SE variant packs the equipment of the E, and to which it adds sequential turn signals, a panoramic glass roof, LED fog lamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the E SE variant brings a piano black trim for the power window switch surrounds, while infotainment here comes courtesy of an eight-inch capacitive touchscreen head unit. Exterior visual aids here include Honda Lanewatch and a multi-angle rear view camera; inside, LED map lights are fitted.

Topping the 2022 HR-V range for Indonesia is the HR-V Turbo RS, at 499.9 million rupiah (RM147,070). In addition to the headlining 177 PS/240 Nm 1.5 litre turbocharged engine, the Turbo RS is visual identified by its RS bodykit and dual exhaust pipe outlets.

Adding to the kit list of the HR-V E SE variant, the Turbo RS brings a black leather interior with red contrast stitching, soft-touch interior door card sections, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

Instrumentation for the driver in the Turbo RS variant is a seven-inch TFT cluster with customisable display settings, while audio comes courtesy of a four-speaker setup joined by two tweeters. The driver gets to choose from three drive modes – Sport, Normal and Econ, while further conveniences in the Turbo RS include a hands-free powered tailgate with walk-away closing function. Passive safety equipment includes six airbags.

There are six exterior paint finishes offered for the 2022 Honda HR-V for the Indonesian market – Crystal Black Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Sand Khaki Pearl 2-Tone and Ignite Red Metallic 2-Tone.

The 2022 Honda HR-V has been sighted on Malaysian roads last month, and Honda Malaysia has stated that all-new models it has planned for the Malaysian market will comes with VTEC Turbo as well as e-HEV hybrid powertrains; also confirmed is the Honda Sensing driver assistance suite. This B-segment crossover will be one of two all-new model introductions slated for our market this year, with the other being the BR-V.

I just hope us Malaysian will get the Japan/UK/Europe/Australia head unit. Not the “aftermarket” head unit like those from Thailand and Indonesia. The “aftermarket” head unit make the HRV looks cheap.

I also hope that Honda Malaysia will not make the mistake of providing wireless apple carplay but with wired charging like the Civic. It does not make sense at all.

I also hope that they can offer range topping specs that comes with a 1.5 NA engine, to keep the price reasonable. Range topping specs should not be reserved to go with a turbo engine. Not everyone will require turbo engine to go up Genting everyday. Many need this car for normal day to day usage. Not all of us are boy/girl racer.

And please do not compare the HRV with Corolla Cross. The Cross is based on c segment platform (sedan) while the HRV is a b segment. The Cross is larger than the HRV. Due to this, it will be unacceptable if Honda Malaysia priced the HRV within or close to the Cross. It is not apple to apple segment.

    • when RS doesnt offer any performance increase, complain its only cosmetic

when RS offer turbo engine to give more performance, complain its unecessary

always complain, tell that to european brand who give equipment based on engine power.

tell BMW to give us a full spec 320i and barebone 330i, not everybody need more power right and full spec doesnt need to be reserved for more powerful engine right?

Below is Honda UK offering for HRV. Look at trim level and compare the drive. You can opt for better trim level (better specs) with the same drive system throughout the range.

Time change, brands do not give equipment based on engine power anymore. Maybe it happens here in Malaysia, but that need to change. With internet, we can see beyond our own borders. We have the ability to compare.

  • 1.5 litres NA with CVT on a relatively heavy car? This spells underpower.

Very interesting to see how well specced Hondas are in Indonesia compared to Malaysia without that big of an effect on pricing. We’re not going to get anything close to these specs because if they didn’t do it with the Civic they definitely aren’t going to with this.

Great starting price and we were told stories how the HR-V will not land in Malaysia due to its steep price and will be replace with another model.

Glad the analysis is wrong and if that price matches in Malaysia sure it is gonna sell like hot coffee.

Malaysia will get 99% exactly like Indon specs. 4 variance. Price will be higher than current HRV. Top of range RS spec cud be around RM130k. Will be in our showroom by late Aug.
