Honda Malaysia – new vehicle production affected by chip shortage; customer deliveries could be delayed

Honda Malaysia has announced on its official website that it is currently facing a delay in acquiring parts for new car production, resulting in inconsistent production output at its factory in Melaka. This disruption stems from the global shortage of semiconductors and the Covid-19 pandemic, both of which have impacted supply chains that support car production.

The company says that due to the reduction in production output and high market demand, customers who have already placed a booking may be faced with delays in delivery depending on their chosen model and variant.

It added that some deliveries might not take place before the sales and service tax (SST) exemption – 100% for CKD cars, 50% for CBU – comes to an end on June 30, 2022. The company apologised for any inconvenience it caused its customers and is pushing to maximimise production output as best it can.

This issue is not specific to Honda Malaysia, as Proton also announced on Labour Day that its production was affected by the semiconductor shortage. Outside of our country, other car companies have also revealed it is facing difficulty in meeting production targets due to supply chain issues.

Lets see… waiting for bashers to say:

Other brands don’t use chip? Oh yes …. seems like they are trying to spread this narrative.

Lets check it out..other brands..whether they drop in terms of sales. When sales are down..floods…chip shortage…the Ukraine war, Shanghai lockdown..macam macam ada excuse. Could it be a problematic workforce, infighting amongst managers, lack of followup etc ? Come on,grow up Honda…find ways to improve, not find more excuses.Fanboys might migrate to other brands if this excuse mentality is perpetuated.

Come on all most of your car parts especially chips comes directly from Honda suppliers don’t tell me you did not secure the parts for those numbers of bookings already for such a small market.

But fanboys and fangirls…be forewarned…due to chip shortage…you may get your beloved Honda car by January next year. Honda has a reputation now “NOT SURE WHEN DELIVERY “due to chip shortage.

One year one variant/model. When got parts problem, blame it to dealers.

I just cancel the booking even my loan is approved. Not worth waiting and new model is coming. Furthermore our RM value is shrinking. Better invest in somewhere else like USD or SGD

Let us not book any car for next 6 months. See how Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Proton, Perodua response. They will offer discount to attract ppl to buy car. If they do not upgrade their supply chain, they will loose market share.

Then stop introducing new models or facelift models to make the backlogs worst. Without the components you won’t be able to make delivery and what’s the point of new models . Never thought a Japanese company has such brainless management. A shame to you Honda. Stop all potential launches and concentrate in clearing the backlog. Once you solve your components issues, ramp up your capacities but please don’t compromise on quality/workmanship to balance up delivery vs demand.

Totally agreed with you, I have booked my car 6 months ago and yet to get my car! And everyday I can see others post they have received their Honda HRV which is a newer model.

  • I am seeing allot of new HRV compared to other models. So frustrated with Honda Malaysia now. Even have the audacity now to tell waiting period is 12 months. But i was only told 2-3 months can get the car when they took my booking fee.
