Volkswagen ID.Every1 being developed as standalone model; no plans for Cupra, Skoda versions of EV hatch

The Volkswagen ID.Every1 that was unveiled last week will be developed as a standalone model, and there are currently no plans for there to be related models from other brands within the Volkswagen Group, Autocar has reported.

The ID.Every1 is built on the group’s MEB architecture that also forms the basis of the ID.2all, Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq, and while these three models from their respective brands have been developed alongside each other, the production ID.Every1 is not being developed with other platform siblings within the Volkswagen Group, said Volkswagen head of technical development Kai Grünitz.

The Volkswagen Group is not developing multiple models from the platform of the ID.Every1 as the manufacturer is considering market development, particularly in the segment of city cars. “We think it will grow in the next few years, so we really think coming in 2027 is the right time, especially with all the rumours around combustion engines and how do we end them in Europe,” Grünitz told Autocar.

Therefore, the manufacturer could introduce Cupra or Skoda versions of the productionised ID.Every1 if market demand for the Volkswagen model is strong, however a decision will not be made before the productionised ID.Every1 is launched in 2027, Grünitz added.

The ID.Every1 is also the first project where Volkswagen is applying a shortened development timeframe, enabled partly by a new software system that has been developed with Rivian, and this allows for more virtual testing and development, which in turn requires fewer prototype models.

The new software architecture and other related systems should reduce development time for new models to around three years, and also give the manufacturer group more flexibility to develop derivatives for other brands within the group more quickly, Grünitz added.

Built on the MEB platform, the Volkswagen ID.Every1 is 3,880 mm long, 1,816 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,539 mm. This compact model seats four, and has a luggage capacity of 305 litres. This is aimed at replacing the up! city car that ended production in 2023; the ID.Every1 gets a 95 PS front-mounted electric motor and a range of 250 km (WLTP), and is capable of a 130 km/h top speed.
