Honda Malaysia has announced a recall involving 87,490 units of Honda vehicles to replace their fuel pumps as a precautionary measure.
In an official release, the company lists two different issues relating to the fuel pump of affected vehicles. As of today, there are no incidences of crashes or injuries caused by these issues reported in Malaysia. The first issue relates to the fuel pump impeller, which may swell after prolonged fuel immersion that can result in the vehicle failing to start or stalling while driving.
This fuel pump recall is part of a global issue affecting Denso fuel pumps which has affected more than 4 million vehicles from multiple brands worldwide.
This issue affects 84,073 units of the Jazz, City, Civic, Accord, BR-V, HR-V and CR-V and Odyssey of varying model years, which are listed as follows:
- Honda Jazz – 2015 to 2020 model year
- Honda Jazz Hybrid – 2018 model year
- Honda City – 2014 to 2019 model year
- Honda City Hybrid – 2018 to 2019 model year
- Honda Civic – 2017 to 2018 model year
- Honda Accord – 2013 to 2017 model year
- Honda BR-V – 2017 to 2018 model year
- Honda HR-V – 2015 to 2018 model year
- Honda CR-V – 2018 to 2020 model year
- Honda Odyssey – 2017 to 2019 model year
Meanwhile, the second issue involve the high-pressure fuel pump in affected vehicles, which may crack due to prolonged use and excessive stress. The company says this could potentially lead to a fuel leak or give rise to fuel odour while driving or idling. This issue affects 3,417 units of newer Honda models that are listed as follows:
- Honda Civic – 2023 to 2024 model year
- Honda CR-V – 2024 model year
Honda Malaysia says all current production and selling models are not affected by this recall campaign. “The company believes this product recall is necessary as customer safety is Honda Malaysia’s top priority. The company will continue to take proactive measures and uphold transparency and stringent controls to ensure the safety of its customers. As such, Honda Malaysia is extending the recall to models where the warranty period has lapsed,” it said in its release.
Customers with affected vehicles will be informed via notification letters which contain details of the product recall. Customers can also check if their vehicle is involved in any recall via the HondaTouch app.
Honda Malaysia is urging all affected customers to get in touch with any authorised Honda dealer to set up an appointment to replace the fuel pump, subject to parts availability. The replacement of the parts is free of charge, with all cost related being borne by Honda Malaysia – the replacement stock will be available in stages.
In addition to the HondaTouch app, owners can check if their vehicle is affected by any recall by calling Honda Malaysia’s toll-free number at 1800-88-2020 or verifying their vehicle’s VIN on the official website.

Stalling when driving..is a serious issue.
No serious accidents do not mean Honda can get off the hook.
Why honda take so long to take action? It is not very far from the Takata airbag issue.
Imagine u r cruising at 110km/hr,suddenly stall.
Our regulatory enforcement is very poor in Bolehland.
YB, can u please state one regulation that should be enforce in this situation?
Lucky its not BRAKE Pump
If owner too lazy to change defect fuel pump will the honda car goes KaBOOM?
Honda should at least inform the high presurred fuel pump only applicable for the turbo version only at least people know.
Think about it how can the Civic Turbo 2023 -2024 affected but not the new HR-V since both shares the same engine and performance.
Strange, based on the model years my cars should be affected but entered the VIN in their website and no recall for both cars
My friend BRV last went to sc in 2022 but the app showed that the defective part has been changed.
If the pump was indeed replaced before then i guess this is similar like Takata issue where nitially the requirement to replace only affect small volume then suddenly….
I haven’t notice any spyshot about new Honda City yet.
It’s since 2019 Thailand launched
