ZF presented the worlds first pre-crash occupant safety system with an external side airbag that can deploy before a collision. It can help reduce occupant injury severity for side impact collisions by up to 40 percent.
全球知名的汽车零部件设计与供应商ZF最近对外发布了号称全球第一个的车侧外部主动式气囊（Pre-Crash External Airbag），这个气囊与一般气囊与众不同的地方，在于它被安置在车侧外部而非车内。
除了这点之外，这款新的车侧外部主动式气囊的爆破时机也与一般的气囊不一样，一般的气囊是依靠安装在车头或车侧的探测器探测到车子发生碰撞后，才启动气囊的充气机让气囊爆开，用意在于减轻车内司机和乘客的伤害程度。

但这款主动式气囊是透过另类的探测器，探测到车侧“即将”发生碰撞时在150毫秒的时间内率先爆开气囊，用意是减轻其它车子撞上本身车子车侧时造成的冲击力度，从而达到减缓车内乘客的伤害程度并一并减低车子失控翻覆的机率。
根据ZF提出的研究报告，一般上在公路发生涉及车侧撞击的车祸都会造成车内乘客的胸部严重伤害，而这款主动式气囊则有助于降低车侧的撞击力达30%，让车内乘客的伤害程度能大幅度减缓。
