Hyundai Concept Genesis Coupe – RWD V6!

Hyundai Concept Genesis Coupe

The new Hyundai Concept Genesis Coupe is the near-production result of the HCD series of concept coupes and crossovers. It goes into production in Spring 2009, and will most probably be slightly more production friendly, with a more toned down exterior design compared to this concept.

Done up in a bright Sonic Orange and Ballistic Black two-tone design, the Hyundai Concept Genesis Coupe is powered by the 3.8 litre V6 from the Genesis Sedan mounted at the front mated to a 6-speed manual, sending over 300 horsepower to the rear wheels. The FR design, a classic sports car drivetrain configuration. 0-100km/h time is expected to be under 6 seconds, and the car will also have an LSD differential.

Although still a concept car, there is some preliminary info to preview the final production car specifications. The 2+2 coupe has a wheelbase of 2,820mm, a length of 4,666mm, a width of 1,902mm and a height of 1,386mm. It rides on 20 inch wheels wrapped with Hankook 255/35ZR20 wheels at the front and wider 275/35ZR20 wheels at the rear. Disc brakes are Brembos, with sizes 340mm and 330mm with twin calipers for the front and rear discs respectively.

Hyundai has an ambitious dream of delivering an Infiniti G37 experience at Mitsubishi Eclipse prices with the production Hyundai Genesis Coupe, so this will be quite an interesting wait-and-see for Spring 2009.

I saw this car on the internet yesterday – because the official pictures have just been released like about 2 days ago. I knew it was going to make it to your blog, because it’s such an interesting news.

Such a good-looking concept, and rear-wheel drive V8… It’s going to lay a lot of rubber on the tarmac and provide a lot of fun to the driver (and spectators).

The front somewhat resembles the current Lexus IS while the rear side view seem to have shades of the Lex LS… nevertheless this car is cool… very COOL…

    Nice.

The rear quater windows are unnecessary busy though.

I’m sure someoen will get a twin turbo setup for the V6 shoehorned into it eventually.

So Hyundai beats Toyota back to the cheap rear drive coupe market? …. so where’s the AE86 replacement? 2009 is still some ways away, with Toyota’s engineering and R&D capabilities, I dont think we will have to wait for long.

now, cheap is a relative word…. people here will think twice of plonking down 200k for a Korean coupe, especially with the horde of 2nd hand japanese rear drivers…

Korean AE86? Looks like they beat Toyota to launching it. Unfortunately for us the engine is HUGE! Why not give us in Asia a nice 2.0L turbo engine or something?

with a 300bhp V8 and a total length of more than 4.5metres, i don’t think this has anything to do with a successor of an AE86 of any sort… which should be small and lite and with JUST enough power.
this looks more like a powerslidy-drag machine IMO

nice looking car tho, a nice balance of sleek lines(side proofile) and some aggresive detailings(shark grilled bonnet, little rear brakes cooling scopes)…
plus the orange-black paint scheme looks really cool.

i think sleek and curvy lined side profile kinda pays homage to the very first hyundai coupe, remember the first original with all the curves on the side? yeah that one haha.

the front reminds me of a certaIN Lexus, but the design is definitely excellent.
an Infiniti G37 experience at Mitsubishi Eclipse prices!
    that should be good!

altho I wonder how much is the cost for an eclipse here…

it’ll surely sell well in the states, and it will too in our region if we we’re given the option for a smaller engine.
i see the word ‘drift’ painted all over this car. :D

Just when car design gets cluttered and bored, this one saves hyundai, a lot in fact. So I think the rest should be prepared.

This is a major big step from the current coupe that uses 1.6L to 2.7L V6. Hopefully they will have smaller engine options.

paul, are you sure it is RWD V8 but the you post content only mention V6. i dont see any V8 engine in your post.

anyway, the design is quite safe and not too radical as 2 door coupe. however i like it.

This sleek Hyundai rocket share some of Kia Cee’ds design DNA(notably the front headlamps) which is a plus.

I think Korean standards have jumped by leaps and bounds since a decade ago. Technology and design-wise they are pretty much up there with the Japanese if not better.

And perhaps this Concept Genesis Coupe will prove that there is a lot more going for it than just a bargain-priced tarmac burner…

    i saw on youtube..

hyundai said this aimed for the most affordable sport car on market.
its a nice looking sport car.. remind me of eclipse… and some others

just that this one look more gentle… and not have the speed emotion.
Not voilent at all. Too sissy.

the front is too gentle.. not bold… merely no identity for front and back.

there is so many 2 door sport cars on the market..
definately these shape is not in my top 3 list. Another word..design is too children.

    a much better design IMO… is evo x, GT-R new, fairlady…
these have identity, and emotion in it.
