ETCM to launch Nissan Frontier successor soon

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd announced yesterday that it will be launching two models this year. One is the Nissan Sylphy, which only comes with one engine variant, a 2.0 litre model powered by the MR20DE. The other will be a pick-up truck, which is likely the Nissan Frontier Navara 4X4 that is sold in Thailand by Siam Nissan Automobile.

The Nissan Frontier Navara, or known as the Nissan Navara in other parts of the world, sports a rather impressive specifications list in Thailand including transmission choices that feature either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic. The gearing for the automatic features a strong 3.827 first gear ratio and a single overdrive ratio.

Even the 6-speed manual has a first gear ratio of 4.692 (compared to the Ranger’s 3.905), which guarantees oodles of fun for those who like pushing off from a stand-still and feeling a turbodiesel’s massive torque. The truck’s 4WD system is now electronically selectable via a dial on the dashboard.

The engine under the hood is the Euro3-compliant YD25DDTi commonrail turbocharged intercooled engine which uses a variable geometry turbocharger. It produces 174 horsepower at 4,000rpm and 403Nm of torque at 2,000rpm, easily the most powerful pick-up truck in its class. We can probably expect similiar specifications.

Size-wise, the Frontier Navara has grown larger compared to the Frontier SUT that is on sale currently. Wheelbase has increased from 2,950mm to 3,200rpm, while length, width and height of the Frontier Navara is 5,125 x 1,850 x 1,780 compared to the Frontier SUT’s 5,080 x 1,825 x 1,715. So the new truck is wider, taller, and longer. It can handle a payload of more than 1 ton (1,050kg), and has a towing capacity of 2,700kg thanks to the high 403Nm of torque.

Look after the jump for more photos of the Navara.

Hope they will bring in the automatic version. Better still, have a list of accessories such as cargo covers for buyers to choose.

the design looks great, but why lah must the interior color has to be that brownish. If grey or other dark color would look better.

Jaygan: I’m predicting around RM90k++ for auto and 80k++ for manual

Still the conventional design for pick-up with small door at the back. Nothing innovative to shout about. Anyway good to have competitor to complete with triton and make it more affordable. my vote still go for Triton in term of cabin space and look. But if I’m going for power then definitly Nissan Navira is my choice.

Huh a Euro3-compliant YD25DDTi commonrail turbocharged intercooled engine? Regarding any diesel engine u use here, i don think it will be fully beneficial due to our diesel quality.
When can we enjoy higher grade of diesel?~!~ !

    to MAJUPERAK,

if i’m not wrong, Navara was tested together with hilux and dmax in euro ncap. Top scorer is Triton with 4 Stars.. Navara had one or two stars, and was then revised and retest.. it finally got 3 if i’m not mistaken..

Navara had been in the market for quite some time.. fifth gear tested it against the Triton.. Navara feels much more powerful.. hmm.. this looks damn tough..

look more macho than previous one, but the frontier still didnt prepare comfortable space for the cabin espeacially at the back….from the picture, it looks like the roof still easy for the back passanger “terhantuk”, i’m worried if the frontier drive on off road, what will happen to passanger at the back hehehehe… maybe have many “benjol”
