Rosberg blasts up Goodwood Hill in two Silver Arrows

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 driver and British GP winner Nico Rosberg completed the third and final day of the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed in fitting style. He blasted up Goodwood Hill in two Silver Arrows – one modern, one classic.

Behind the wheel of a W 02 F1 car, Nico drove up the hill to the delight of the thousands of spectators lining the 1.87 km mix of twists, turns and narrow straights that have become a feared and revered part of the festival over the 20 years it’s been running.

A little more sedate but no less loud was Nico’s run in a 1954 W 196. Mercedes AMG Petronas have not released a video of it, but you can see the W 196 in action below, in a previous video of Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton playing with classics at the Nurburgring.

“The fans here have been really enthusiastic and it was fun on the Hill, and going between two cars more than 50 years apart was an amazing experience. Last year at Goodwood I put my hood up and had a sneaky look around the festival without anyone noticing – hopefully I can do the same this year, it’s a special place and there’s nothing like it anywhere in the world,” said the German, who has two wins this season.

Besides lighting up the tyres, Nico took part in a live interview session on the Mercedes-Benz stand (starring the new S-Class and SLS AMG Electric Drive Coupe) before taking time to meet the fans and take in the atmosphere at the festival.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one event I would love to attend someday – it looks mighty fun for both the drivers and the spectators.

Wow, so much legroom and so much shoulder room to move around in the cockpit. It may not have any fancy buttons and LEDs, but that wood steering wheel is just so classy.
