2021 Peugeot 3008 facelift debuts – bolder front face, updated cabin and tech, new PHEV variant with 225 hp

The Peugeot 3008 facelift has just been unveiled, sporting a more aggressive fascia that brings its design in line with the 208, 2008 and 508 stablemates. The big story is none other than the frameless grille, replete with horizontal slats that extend outwards and onto the bumper.

The intakes and headlights, the latter featuring Peugeot’s new vertical LED DRLs that also double as turn indicators. Also for the first time, the model number is positioned on the bonnet, just above the grille. The side scoops and tread plate are painted black for more dramatic effect.

The rear end gets full LED, dark-tinted tail lights with sequential turn signals. Customers have three trims and several new colours (Celebes Blue and Vertigo Blue) to choose from, including exterior enhancements via the ‘Active Pack’, ‘Black Pack’ or ‘GT Pack’ options, the last one featuring a model-specific grille and 19-inch San Francisco diamond-studded aluminium wheels.

Moving into the cabin, the compact SUV is equipped with the latest i-Cockpit interior layout. The 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster gets improved graphics and rendering, whereas the freestanding, touchscreen infotainment display (with MirrorScreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) in the middle is wider, offering a screen real estate of 10 inches. There are still thick bezels around it, though.

All models now get a drive mode selector as standard, allowing drivers to choose between Normal, Sport and Eco. The PHEV models get additional modes – Electric, Hybrid and Sport. As seen in the picture below, the cabin can be had with red Nappa leather upholstery (GT models) and PET/Alcantara lining, while the rest get Mistral Nappa leather upholstery with Tramontane stitching as an option.

New decors include Dark Lime Wood with chrome inserts, as well as a frameless rear-view mirror. A 515-watt Focal high-end Hifi system with belem bronze speaker grilles can also be equipped. Icing on the cake are features such as electric parking brake, multi-point massage seats, and dual-pane sunroof.

For engines, there are two turbocharged petrols and one diesel engine on offer, starting with the 1.2 litre three-cylinder PureTech 130 (130 hp and 230 Nm). This can be had with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions, with drive sent to the front wheels.

The more familiar 1.6 litre four-potter PureTech 180 is retained as well, outputting 180 hp and 250 Nm of torque. An eight-speed auto is the sole transmission option here. Meanwhile, the 1.5 litre BlueHDi diesel engine makes 130 hp and 300 Nm, paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto.

New to the 3008 line-up is the Hybrid 225 variant, which is essentially a downtuned, front-wheel drive version of the hot Hybrid4 300. Power comes from a combination of the 1.6 litre PureTech 180 mill and an 80-kW (110 hp) electric motor, which together produce 225 hp and 360 Nm of torque. With an eight-speed auto, the 3008 Hybrid 225 sprints from 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds. The combined fuel consumption is rated between 1.3 to 1.5 litres per 100 km.

The Hybrid4 300 variant also uses the same 1.6 litre engine, but gets augmented with two electric motors (one on each axle) instead of one. The total system output is 300 hp and 520 Nm of torque, numbers which are good for a century sprint of 5.9 seconds.

Both PHEV models are equipped with the same 13.2 kWh battery pack, offering 56 km of pure electric range for the Hybrid 225 and 59 km (both ratings are based on WLTP cycle) for the Hybrid4 300. When plugged into a single-phase 8A domestic socket, a 0-100% charge is done in seven hours, or four hours via a 14A outlet. A 7.4 kW wallbox is capable of fully juicing the battery in 1.45 hours. Peugeot says the battery is guaranteed for eight years or 160,000 km for 70% of its charge capacity.

Lastly, in terms of safety, the 3008 gets adaptive cruise control, 360-degree Visiopark 2 camera system, Park Assist, lane keeping assist, driver warning alert, auto high beam assist, speed sign recognition, active blind spot monitoring system, and advanced grip control (Normal, Snow, Mud, Sand). There’s also night vision (guaranteed detection of up to 250 metres) and the latest-generation AEB, which works from 5 km/h to 140 km/h. So, what do you think of the updated 3008? Nice?

Very stunning and bold looking! This car is very high-tech, interior is very elegant. But most importantly, this car has a Game-Changing PHEV variant. As the world is moving towards EV, I hope Proton can create an EV variant for the Proton X70

      • Proton can create an EV variant of X70 but why would they do it? There is no market for EV in this region.

Better top up a bit and buy the tank Toyora Rav 4, because it has the gaya-ness, got toyota safety sense to keep your family safe, 8 speed transmission instead of 6 speed from Peugeot and most importantly TNGA so ensure ultimate handling

Looks good. Always like the look of the 3008. Hybrid4 300 would be my preferred variant.

Charging/battery numbers don’t look right. 90kWh battery would take a lot longer than 1.45 hours to charge using a 7.4kWh charger. Is the battery 9kWh perhaps?

Also the petrol/electric combo power is less than the petrol and electric separately, so perhaps the 3008 is not able to fully tap both sources at the same time?

Would look great on the side of the highway, when it breaks down and awaits for tow truck.

  • It is good car and price of maintenance is Malaysia is exorbitant and whenever there is any major issues due to gearbox etc, the Malaysian franchise owner will just say “Email Peugeot France and complain” and there are so many people have gone through nightmares with Peugeot in Malaysia and even after numerous emails to Peugeot France for details, clarifications and complains but none were replied in this past 8 years continuously. So how can Peugeot claim that they have Corporate Social Responsibility when they fail the fundamentals? This Malaysian Peugeot Service centre is without competent technicians and mechanics as they fail to explain why there is frequent problem with the Peugeot cars? Furthermore, the parts are NOT DURABLE comparatively to other CAR MAKERS.

    DISAPPOINTING AFTER SALES SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!

PURCHASING THIS CAR IS SOMETHING LIKE, YOU ARE PURCHASING TEETHING PROBLEMS!!!

What you say is not true. I think You don’t own peugeot before.

      • That is my opinion as I used a Peugeot before and due to this gearbox issue and I took the case to Tribunal.

Won the case and the repaired the gearbox instead to change and the problem still persist with multiple errors appearing and each time we send to repair, the service centre will somehow do something and then mention the warranty is only for 1 month and after that the error will reappear.

There is so many people in Malaysia has bad experiences with Peugeot.

End of the day due to the poor after sales service and the incompetent of their mechanics and technicians and the distributors lackadaisical attitude will cause Peugeot negatively as many people are IT savvy now and starts to read comments and reviews before buying.

Furthermore the maintenance cost is killing and the reliability and durability is definitely poor.

Hope the distributor buck up in Malaysia and Peugeot France doesn’t seems to bother our market’s complain as their sales are good in Europe but soon when they get a negative impact, they will start to realise the importance of other markets.

Bought the 3008 in 2018. Was a bit skeptical about the reliability and after sales service. However, everything is still smooth sailing so far. Being very strict about the maintenance schedule. Am not sure whether I am lucky or what. But the car has given less headache compared to my BMW, Hyundai and even Proton.
