2006 Daihatsu Be-Go
The Daihatsu Be-Go is the production version of the Daihatsu D-Compact 4×4 which I’ve blogged about before. From concept to production in such a short time. The D-Compact 4X4 was shown at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, and months later it’s already shown as a production car at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.
UPDATE: Perodua has announced that a new Kembara will be launched in mid-2008. It is expected that the new Perodua Kembara replacement will be based on the Daihatsu Bego/Toyota Rush. Click here for more details.
The Daihatsu Be-Go is a compact 4X4, and will likely replace the Daihatsu Terios in it’s car line-up. That means we’ll see it on Malaysian roads one day as a Perodua to replace the Perodua Kembara, which was based on the current Daihatsu Terios. So this post should interest you guys quite a bit.
At first glance, it looks like the design was recycled from the outgoing second generation Toyota RAV4. But no matter, the 2nd generation Toyota RAV4 looks great and until today it still doesn’t look dated on the roads.
The Daihatsu Be-Go is powered by a 1.5 liter DOHC 16 valve DVVT engine. They’ve called it the “TOPAZ” engine. This is a newly developed engine, also seen in the Daihatsu Copen ZZ. This engine makes 103hp at 6000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 4400rpm. The engine is mated to a full time 4WD system with a centre differential lock. The compact SUV has a kerb weight of 1190kg.
Interior looks good… there’s a wooden trim MOMO steering there which I’m not sure whether will reach the production versions. The meter panel design doesn’t differ much from the 2nd generation Toyota RAV4.
The Daihatsu Be-Go will go on sale in Japan and subsequently the rest of the world early next year. It’s not known yet whether Perodua will use this as the Kembara Replacement Model. But if they do, it’s sure to sell like hot-cakes here in Malaysia.

Sweet…
October 24, 2005 @ 1:38 am
Oh this is the one they speculated will be next kembara ah… (I won’t be surprised, considering the P2 - Daihatsu tie-up)
October 24, 2005 @ 2:46 am
nt sure y a 4×4 should have a momo steering wheel…anyway, from the pic it looks awefully small interior like the current kembara …if thy do bring it here, expect more plasticky interior though..i jus hope it drives well, bcos seriously…the current kembara is crap to drive…feels like a jelly fish on a highway
October 24, 2005 @ 3:52 am
hmm.. cant be too bad since it is derived from rav4.. but paul, how is the fuel consumption? and agree with e-nabill.. the interior WILL be more plastic-ky once it arrives here..
October 24, 2005 @ 5:26 am
really nice one… the interior rocks… but why does the rear scream so much “rav4″?
October 24, 2005 @ 5:56 am
Nice look for a small 4×4. But even if it made it to our shore in P2’s badge, I doubt we’ll get the same center console on the dashboard. And yes, there’s a big possibilities it will be more plasticky!
I definitely agree with E-nabill that the rides and handling are a total crap. I’ve never had motion sickness in my life from car rides, long hauled flights and ferry or speed boat rides across the sea. But I got one from a Kembara in a journey from Puchong to Uptown! Imagine that. There goes my clean record. Ceh!
October 24, 2005 @ 8:04 am
If RM45k to RM55k I think will sell like NASI LEMAK in Malaysia!!
Wow!! P2 Good jod, but for P1 is another impact to Sales!

underpower.. and the tak best one is, ambi crner rasa nak terbalik!
October 24, 2005 @ 8:37 am
If this car sell by p2,i’m sure it gonna be a hot plate in m’sia
October 24, 2005 @ 9:12 am
Why does it look like a Toyota RAV4. That’s the first thing I thought when I looked at the body.
October 24, 2005 @ 9:12 am

October 24, 2005 @ 10:12 am

October 24, 2005 @ 10:35 am
At least the air-con vents are bigger. The current ones are so small, ventilation suffers.
October 24, 2005 @ 11:30 am
design is nice looking, i don care lah if p2 just copy-paste and not buat sendiri, as long as the quality is worth ur RM… on the driving side, i dono coz i never drove a kembara b4…
i never say potong copy-paste is shameful… they did a good job on rebadging, the only problem is the shoddy workmanship of their final work…
October 24, 2005 @ 11:33 am
by the way ppl only takes months from concept to production, i wonder why potong have to takes years to acquire existing platform from VW and from there to production…
well, well, we all know the answer already, rite? potong ppl’s attitude and inefficiency…
October 24, 2005 @ 12:10 pm
rav4 look alike kembara, my goodness. if P2 brings this baby in surely TAPAU proton alredy la. hahahahaha. i really hope they bring this in and retain the gear box position.
October 24, 2005 @ 10:49 pm
if it does come here as a perodua kembara-dua,
i wonder if it will use this 1.5 Topaz engine or have the standard Myvi 1.3 engine…
or better: have both!
fingers crossed!!!
October 24, 2005 @ 11:28 pm
UMW Toyota may bring in the Terios too..this could be it.
October 25, 2005 @ 8:26 am

October 26, 2005 @ 3:07 am
Any idea if it’s a full time 4×4?
October 26, 2005 @ 3:24 pm
its cool alrite but by looking at the pic, its gonna be the same size as Kembara.
October 26, 2005 @ 3:27 pm
I want that steering in my MyVi
October 28, 2005 @ 4:14 am
imposible below RM40k…i guess must be more than RM60k if it is the new Perodua Kembara! if under Toyota it will be more than RM80k..
October 30, 2005 @ 2:54 pm
3995×1695x1695 in dmension
bigger than current kembara
RM 72000~ for 1.5l 4×4
To be launched in Japan on 17 Jan 2006.
Launched in Malaysia may be in May 2007.
Daihatsu trying to manufacture boxy MPV dB also in Malaysia plant.
The sequence for new car launches should be:
New Mira –> New Kemabara –> New dB
October 30, 2005 @ 2:59 pm
But one thing to remember, if daihatsu decided to produce boxy dB in Malaysia (since it shares parts with MyVi), then daihatsu may produce the new Kembara in Indonesia. And that will mean higher pricing for the car.
November 19, 2005 @ 11:45 pm

[...] What I’d really like to see is the new Daihatsu Terios/Daihatsu Be-Go as a replacement for the Perodua Kembara. The 2nd generation Toyota RAV design elements in it look really good. [...]
May 26, 2006 @ 8:14 pm
hahaha….
I dont believe it is be the replacement for Kembara now, i think 3 years later maybe. Even it is replacement for Kembara, but the interior or exterior won’t 100% similar. Just like what they did to Myvi interior.
July 18, 2006 @ 5:15 pm
I reckon the new Daihatsu Terios is a massive improvement over the previous model. If Perodua re-badges it as their 2nd-generation Kembara, it WILL sell like hot cakes, provided that the price is reasonable. Unlike Europeans, Malaysians don’t usually make a big fuss over interior trim quality…hehehe… =P
August 17, 2006 @ 10:49 pm
I agree with Insider, the price tag probably going to be around 70k++ to 80k++. As always, interior spaces will be an issue later on.

[...] The previous D-Compact concept series from Daihatsu was the Daihatsu D-Compact 4X4 which ended up as the production Daihatsu Be-Go/Toyota Rush. Following the current crossover craze, this is the latest in the D-Compact series - the Daihatsu D-Compact X-Over, where X-Over means crossover. [...]
