2009 Audi A7 Coupe - New CLS Contender

audi_a7_450.jpg

The Audi A7, like it’s name, is a model positioned between the Audi A6 and the Audi A8. It is a direct contender for the Mercedes Benz CLS Coupe, part of a new wave of 4-door “coupes”, which are basically normal sedans with a sporty coupe-like rooflike.

It’s expected that the Audi A7 will make it’s first debut to the world at the LA Motor Show this November 2006. There have already been spyshot sightings of the A7 making it’s rounds around the infamous Nurburgring test track. The car is expected to come with 6 engine offerings, both petrol and turbodiesel, with the top of the line having the Lamborghini-derived V10 to be introduced in the Audi R8.

Currently, Mercedes Benz is the only one with a four-door coupe car on the market. There are no competitors. This has sent companies like Jaguar and Volkswagen to develop their own four-door coupe competitors as well. Jaguar is developing an XJ replacement, and Volkswagen is developing a Passat-based coupe.

ya…maybe the rear passenger lose headroom and legroom…like merc cls…hv to sacrifice 37mm of headroom cause of the sloping roof dsg…btw…to prevent the passenger’s head frm touching the sloping roof…the rear seat had to moved fwd a bit…mabe it is same like this a7 i think…

to be fair though, i’ve never been a fan of audi (except the TT) so maybe i’m biased :D

Well, most Audi’s car’s lines are not bad for me… but just look almost the same… hmmm…. as contender for CLS, I think I like CLS’s design more..

If it were to be alive (aka CARS)… the front grill reminds me of a big mouth to swallow everything in it’s path.

The CLS is the more inspiring piece of design. This looks like your average German luxury barge.

If CLS looks like an inspiring piece of design. then CLS just inspired ah pek and everyone in the old folks home. We sometimes get influence by the branding but Audi’s quality and design are actualy not lesser then others.

if its an 09 model, it should be introduced in 08….thats usually what happens…

what model year was the cls supposed to be in? i think by 09 we can only hope for a facelifted CLS not an all new one..

I wont deny that this car looks wicked.. but somehow, it tends to lean more towards the conservative end on looks.. mers cls seems to be a little more berserk in styling..

2008.. Thats still abit late.. Haiz.. In that 2 years.. lots of new trends in designing cud emerge i guess..

[...] Audi already has a larger coupe in it’s line-up, the Audi A7 which will be a four door coupe that goes against the Mercedes Benz CLS. While most artist’s impressions have shown a two door version of the Audi A5, there are some rumours that there will be a four door version as well. [...]

[...] German car magazine AutoBild reports that BMW is developing a four-door sedan model to go against the Mercedes Benz CLS Coupe and the upcoming Audi A7. The artist’s impression doesn’t seem to indicate a B pillar, so it might have suicide doors. While some sites have predicted that this new car will be the BMW 8-series, others have said it is actually the BMW X6, a crossover coupe with 4WD capabilities. I think the latter is more likely. The car will be based on the BMW X5 platform. [...]
