VIDEO: Peter Schreyer and the new Kia Forte

Kia Forte

The Kia Forte is one of the best looking Korean cars to ever be unveiled and sports Kia’s new corporate nose (now also found on the Kia Optima facelift and soon the upcoming Sorento). The Forte was first unveiled as a concept 2-door coupe called the Kia Koup. Chief design Peter Schreyer talks about the Kia Forte’s design in a video after the jump. He isn’t as good a presenter on video as Chris Bangle and may seem a little kayu at first, but it’s interesting to see his take on the Kia Forte and Kia’s new design language.

Sporty zis …sporty zat…zya..zya….ve got ze point alreazy..!…This Forte is
indeed an awesome looking car! proportionally, characteristically.. Schreyer coming from Audi n VW…implements a few of em elements but wit restyled freshness. The imerging shoulder from A pillar continues to the back, the bulging front wheel arch (check Audi RS6), the fine and bold looking rear!…everything looks well in placed, harmonious and modern at the same time…Kudos to Schreyer and his team!..cant wait to see it on the road…Ve gheally2 like zis car!!…

Ou local boys can do better design than this actually. Just look those UiTM students and Proton’s R&D studio. The downside is, there is ‘invisible’ hand who ‘kacau’ the design. you know what I mean. The people who don’t know design but have the power.

Front headlamps look a bit like Honda Civic’s.

OK lah, sharp but not too agressive styling.

But the attractive Kia Cee’d looks more original in styling I think..

I have no complaint about the design… looks very good….. I hope there was some budget left over for drivetrain development , Chassis development and R&D etc. Dont want it to be like proton ….. class leading handling but the other aspect of the car lacking.

You will notice now days very hard to find a car which good in every aspect.
For example Vios has a good drivetrain but the design is somewhat lacking.

doesnt look very original somehow, but then again, there isnt really much originality in car design nowadays.

i actually believe some protons are actually good looking, and have some sense of originality about them.. the gen2 and satria neo are definitely good looking cars.

English is not his first language is it? Proton does not need to hire him. Just hire Theophilus Chin instead.

It’s not as simple as just hiring Peter Schreyer. Backing him up are about 4000+ Hyundai-Kia R&D engineers worldwide. Worldwide network in North & South America, Europe, Middle East, Russia, Asia, etc. giving feedback, etc. Survey companies, web-based technician 24-7 training, etc. In Malaysia people don’t see all this and just assume Kia is some backyard company.

eventho the car looks good, how will be the sale value… people in malaysia buy cars not just on the looks itself, or the horses it carries.. there are a lot in their mind… thats why the sale of 2 door car worse in this country, but sky high in other country… and the badge also plays good role in the resale value lol as well as popularity of the car model itself… i mean why 2nd hand value of mazda 6 is lower than honda civic 2.0??? much2 lower….
