Proton has clarified that it’s US$24 million Cikarang plant in Jakarta is not for sale. Proton Managing Director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said The Jakarta Post’s report is inaccurate, and Proton plans to ramp up it’s presence in the country in both transport and retail markets.
This requires a assembly facility to prepare for the ramp up in Indonesian Proton car sales. Achmad Safiun, Commissioner of PT Proton Edar Indonesia says PT Proton Edar Indonesia is very proud of Proton’s confidence in the Indonesian market, and will work to make Indonesia one of Proton’s best markets in the region.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Eheheh… False alarm
aiyo!!! make me happy for an evening only. i though they really going dept in debts and force to sold the plant (perhaps for 1 Euro again?or 1 rupiah?) haha…
ok. we'll see how long it lasts or whether it will be successful. does indonesia have a free car market? or at least about the same as thailand?
Aiseh…forgot to find that out. Just got back from Indo last week. But still, I think it's a similar situation with Thailand. Proton has to compete with Honda and Toyota (and Kijang). Could be another bumpy ride.
One thing for sure, Proton need to find better solution on the Wira's bumper if they wanna sell it as taxis there. If you think you can 'cilok-cilok' your car in KL, especially small cars like Kancil, Kelisa or Satria, try to do that in the city like Jakarta. Hehe. They are way "pro" than us lots. I don't want to hear my friends over there telling me they found a lot of Wira's bumper on the road.
I just hope will start doing smart business from now on to safe their own arse. No more bail out from us.
was surprising thy wanted to dsale the plant…considering it was supose to be used to build those wira there for the taxi market…beside..thy r concentrating on exports alot thses days so it didnt make sence…anyway good luck…thy r due to some change of fortune..
hopefully PROTON will increase & improve their car QUALITY, not only QUANTITY. don't make Indonesian market only for place to 'clear' their Wira car stock here. Take this advantages seriously to promote our national car especially in term of QUALITY & DURABILITY.
Anyway, good luck PROTON!
they should remain the Indonesia plant for future.
US$24m not a big amount for Proton, so better keep the factory.
if that is the case, then good luck to Proton. Hope they do well
i still say….PROTON…GIVE US SUVs, MPVs and 4X4s……more variants, more buyers…but also we want QUALITY……if possible…bikin lagi murah…!! Who doesnt want if its cheap & of GOOD QUALITY……
Malaysian always talks like shit
Actually, newer batch of Proton cars are improving. I cannot say it's the best, but all i can say that it's a whole lot better than the brand new Proton cars of the last 1 or 2 years. I say this based on my ownership of one of it's cars for a year already. But of course, many people won't believe Proton anymore.
indonesia is so near, and with afta cept 5% tax,why need to spend so many many million of money to build that stupid, not logical, not realistic, cikarang factory, just use our port klang, within hour, oredi in indonesia water.crack my coconut head also dunno why lah.
the reason doing that is to boost Indonesian jobs. Like Malaysia there is volvo factory. People will say if they buy the proton in Indonesia, it creates jobs. So they don't mind building it there and the costs of making it in Indonesia is cheaper. So it makes sense. They will be more willing to buy proton if it is make or assemble in Malaysia. Malaysia also like that, government have low tax for locally assembled foreign cars.
I should have said lower tax for foreign car that is locally assembled cars. Coz the tax is not low but lower LoL :-) :P
Never in car history build one factory for the sole purpose of to target taxi market only. Should put in at least Malaysian Book of Record or Guiness World Record for such "endeavor"!
OMG! Instead of advancing further into the Indonesian market, they are withdrawing! WTF!
proton should be careful about its investment out there..i think got conspiration over jakarta post's falsified report..who knows?

hahaha come on la this Proton bought Mv Agusta for millions and sell it back for 1 euro(without making any profit money/tech)?

i thk proton should build a time machine which can go back to future.. send the current models to the 80's. sure their cars will sell like hot cake.. hehe…
as for the indonesian plant, i think they can rent out for toyota to assemble the avanza cos it's most affordable toyota crap… hehe..
u can do it proton !
do wat?
check back the Proton manual for their owners…what their manual also rosak…aiseh…
