Nissan to launch Murano CrossCabriolet for the US market- will it work?

Nissan has officially confirmed that it will be putting the Murano CrossCabriolet into production. No pictures were released with the announcement, thus its first public debut would be at the Los Angeles Auto Show this year.

Meant for the American market, it will be the world’s first “all wheel drive crossover convertible”, with space for four adults and luggage with the top down. There has been no mention of the car being available in any other markets apart from the US, which goes on sale next year.

Brian Carolin, Nissan North America Inc.’s senior vice president for Sales and Marketing said that the convertible is intended as an image vehicle for the Nissan brand. “It’s not going to be a volume car. But there’s a degree of bravery for us to bring out a car like that right now. It will surprise a lot of people.”

Nissan will also be unveiling the next generation Quest, expected to house a 3.7 litre V6 generating up to 300hp and the Nissan Ellure concept sedan. The production version of the Nissan Leaf will also be at the Nissan stands.

Even without pictures, the design will no doubt be slightly strange. When the car was shown to dealers in Las Vegas, some said that it looked better with the top down than up. Do you think this will work? Have you say.

Nissan have got some balls to bring a concept like this to production. Alot of people thought BMW were nuts to bring the X6 to life yet today many are flooding our streets. Nissan is setting a trend here. Who’d have thought?

An SUV with the top down, bring it…who knows it might work in the market such as US. A lot of trend setter over there so I think Nissan is wise to test it first there. And the Quest, I think that’s is Nissan answer to Vellfire…but I tend to like Vellfire for it’s look. Don’t actually fancy the Quest grille from the concept. Maybe the car looks better in the flesh. Go job Nissan for being bold!

I wonder how many people remember the following….

    Suzuki X90 (or Jimmy/Feroza)
    Isuzu Vehi-cross
Isuzu Amigo (ie, Short wheelbase Trooper)
    and the evergreen Jeep Wrangler.

All tried a “convertible” (ok, the X90 was a coupe/targa, the Vehi-Cross was convertible only in prototype form) variant to different sucess. Other than the Wrangler, doubt many would remember the rest…basically proof that the concept is lukewarm at best…..

Even Audi toyed with its own CrossCab (so there goes Nissan’s originality on the “Crosscab” name) based on a jacked up A4/Q5 chassis. But nothing happened after that.

Forgot to mention the other evergreen 4WD convertible. The Range Rover Defender.

Theophillus Chin, we need you to render some artworks on this please……..it’s not surprised that someone would dare to try this concept out, but for Nissan to do it, it takes some guts. Hopefully they can pull it off, and maybe then we would see BMW X6 CrossCabriolet (or whatever they wanna call it.). hahahhaa…….it’s mind-blowing just to think that.
