BMW 1 Series GT – third row seats for the MPV?

3E2_8178-2525284645-O

One day on and we have a better view of the “MPV” that BMW is developing. Yesterday, our European spy pixmen – for the first time – saw a longer version of the BMW 1 Series GT hatchback that has been previously caught testing at the Nurburgring. It had an MPV-like shape, leading us to believe that BMW could be coming out with its first MPV.

Today’s set of pics feature a mule without camo on the rear glass, giving us a tiny glimpse of the car’s cabin. Are those shadowy things head rests for a third row of seats? If they are, we could be looking at a three-row, seven-seat BMW MPV. Yes, an ultimate driving multi-purpose vehicle! Will such a car be a runaway success or a niche too far for Munich? Only time will tell.

Click here to see a video and pics of the shorter BMW 1 Series GT hatchback, which should be making its debut this September in Frankfurt. The front-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz B-Class rival is based on the BMW Concept Active Tourer from last year.

Yes, 20 years old 2JZ-GTE stll faster and tougher than today’s engine, Toyota’s sport car has great reputation among the world, your argument is invalid. Typical idiotic Japs hater.

  • I think having the third row seat in the new BMW would be a good idea. Since BMW 1 Series GT Hatchback didn’t have it. The only difference which may not be on the good side is more room for passengers, but less in the back for groceries, etc. If BMW can make it so the seats are easily removed and “put back” into the car they may have a winner!

Think about it. People are willing to put down money for a used Wish or an Estima. If its size is between these two, and they price it about 180-200k in Malaysia, that will be the end of the Wish. Close story.

    why would a 1 series need a 7 seater?
a 7 seater should be an mpv something like estima

bmw is widening their range in a weird way.from 1-8 series are conventional sedan body..not a single is mpv..why do they need that?

True. For target customers who can easily fetch out 300k and above, they would want something as big as R-class or Q7, or at least a Sharan/Alphard(for their sizes).
Unless this 7-seater can be priced near to 200k, for this little 7-seater to challenge against B-class.

Hope BMW’s driving thrills come together with the package… Don’t forget BMW’s core values, “Sheer Driving Pleasure”… Or else better buy (possibly) cheaper, larger MPV such as Ford SMAX or VW Sharan…

Maybe the trend nowadays is towards ‘people mover’, as there are not many luxury MPV options around. Not all riches will opt for sports car to spend their cash.
