VIDEO: Audi R8 V10 plus vs Iron Man’s stunt driver

Supercars look the coolest on the silver screen, performing the sort of manoeuvres that owners and the rest of us pull off in our dreams. But since autonomous cars are some way off Hollywood-grade, stunt drivers (not the actors, remember that!) will continue to be relied upon to bring car chase scenes to life.

These faceless heroes have the skill and the balls to tame the four-wheeled beasts, and one of the best in the business is Glenn Foster. The Hollywood stuntman and stunt driver has worked on countless action movies including James Bond – Quantum of Solace, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. He’s also a regular stuntman for Robert Downey Jr a.k.a. Iron Man, and recently appeared in Avengers – Age of Ultron.

As Tony Stark’s stuntman, Foster has driven all forms of the Audi R8, from the earliest V8 and Spyder to today’s second-gen R8 V10 plus. He says it “feels remarkably different to the older version” and that “it feels like it has a race edge, and it feels like it wants to be on the track, it feels like it wants to be racing.” The man has more to say, and you can view his “video review” above.

The second-gen Audi R8 was revealed at Geneva this year. The standard 5.2 FSI V10 packs 540 hp and 540 Nm, and is capable of 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and 323 km/h max. The R8 V10 plus in this video ups things to 610 hp and 560 Nm, with the century sprint brought down to 3.2 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.

Danny Tan loves driving as much as he loves a certain herbal meat soup, and sweet engine music as much as drum beats. He has been in the auto industry since 2006, previously filling the pages of two motoring magazines before joining this website. Enjoys detailing the experience more than the technical details.

  • funny thing is when they were shooting Avengers Age of Ultron the 2nd gen wasn’t ready so they used the old R8 V10 plus and edited it to look like the new one.
