At the launch of the new XC90, Volvo Car Malaysia’s (VCM) current managing director, Keith Schafer (pictured here), announced that he will soon be relieving himself of the position at the company. He will soon be succeeded by Lennart Stegland, the current vice president of Volvo Cars China.

The incoming MD has previously held positions as the president of Volvo Cars Germany and as the vice president of Volvo Car Electric Propulsion Systems.

Speaking of Stegland, the current VCM MD said that, “with more than 37 years of experience, I am sure that Mr Stegland has the competence and energy to take Malaysia to the next level. I hope you will extend to him the same warmth and hospitality that I have enjoyed throughout my stay here in Malaysia.”

Schafer was appointed as the MD of VCM in 2013. A Swede himself, Schafer has maintained several positions with Volvo since 1986. During his time in Malaysia, he oversaw the launching of the Volvo V40 and the facelifted XC60 – two of the brand’s core models in this part of the globe today.

“I would like to announce that I have accepted an offer to take up a new position as Senior Director within Global Retail Operations, which will see my return to Sweden, after more than 11 years abroad. There, I will lead a global function that oversees global retail sales and marketing programmes,” said the outgoing MD.

From what I heard, the current guy Schafer is a good hardworking MD, ever ready to get his hands dirty to fix the diseased Volvo production and distribution network. He managed to bring to Malaysia the new XC90 with a very good price.

he is actually. can’t blame him for low sales because the volvos produced and designed under Ford ownership were not the most outstanding or desirable cars. the product lineup was just not strong enough. now with geely at the helm, i can see volvo returning to their glory days in malaysia.

Coming from motherland China, congrats and looking forward to greater things from the new MD.

Hopefully, he can maintain 5+5+5 after sales service package.

Volvo could do well with diesel variants now that Euro 5 is available in Klang Valley. Their Drive-E diesels are the star of this powertrain after all.

They should hasten to Drive-E-fy all models here, even introduce new 1.5L Drive-E.

    Heja Sverige!

If we compare the service between cycle & carriage vs federal auto. I hope Volvo could give more support to FA.

I own a volvo 240 gl 1983 model & this car been within the family last 33 years. Recently I had some issues in name transfer & Malaysian Road Transport Authority gave a letter to Volvo Malaysia to get new chassis number provided by the authority to be punched. Since March I have been sending emails after emails & no one from Volvo replied except for 2 gentlemen from Federal Auto who state that they have relayed the same to Volvo Malaysia & no response. Believe Volvo Malaysia has Incompetent Managers who just don’t care about Customers requirements. I intend to keep this car for a long time & if this is the way Volvo Malaysia treats their customers?

    Thanks & Regards
