All Klang Valley toll plazas to go cashless by end-2016

It has been revealed that by the end of 2016, all 21 toll plazas in the Klang Valley are expected to be fully electronic, the Association of Malaysian Highway Concessionaires announced. The New Straits Times reports that the move is aimed at boosting efficiency and comfort for highway users.

“At manual collection toll booths, an average of 360 collections can be made per hour compared to 1,000 collections via Smart Tag,” the association’s president Datuk Zainudin A. Kadir said. He reiterated that from January 13, 2016, 10 toll plazas on four highways in the Klang Valley will only accept electronic toll collection (ETC) via PLUSMiles cards, Touch ‘n Go cards and SmartTags.

As a recap, the 10 affected toll plazas, which will follow a ETC system from said date, are located along the Maju Expressway (MEX), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga) and the Kemuning Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA).

TnG SmartTag

Zainudin added that once the ETC comes into effect on the initial 10 toll plazas, a 10% rebate will be offered to Class One vehicle users for two months, between January 13 and March 12, facilitated by the MEX, NPE, LKSA and Grand Saga concessionaries.

The adoption of a ETC system will also have no impact on the current staff of toll collectors, according to Zainudin, who stated that they would be redeployed to other tasks instead of facing retrenchment.

What do you think of this move by the Association of Malaysian Highway Concessionaires? Will it help ease the congestion experienced at toll booths in the Klang Valley? With this announcement, it’s best that you keep your PLUSMiles cards, Touch ‘n Go cards and SmartTags at the ready while on the road, and ensure that there is sufficient credit loaded into them.

Cashless tol mean user must own TNgo card. TNgo company will be happy with such announcement as user has to reload/top-up in advance…..

Why can’t rakyat given a choice to use other option such as VISA/MASTERCARD WAVE?

Najib should waive GST on TNG reload becoz no more option to pay manual.

    • No GST on reloads at all Petronas stations at NS highway. Go for it.

From this comment, it seems pretty obvious you’re not a TnG user.. There’s plenty of places that charge just 50 sen per reload, and even zero service charge for reloads.

The statement that they will still keep their full roster of toll collection staff goes to show how much profit these toll concessionaires actually make.
I’ve got a better suggestion: Open all lanes gates at the toll – No toll collection if there is traffic jam! This is definitely faster and more comfortable for road users

  • At some toll plazas, you don’t need speed anyway. It’s always jammed.
SPRINT at Phileo is one. So is the LDP at Sunway, and Damansara Perdana.

  • Dont government thinking raising toll price more easy while we using TnG.

raising toll price, doesnt feels much as being paid cashless. but when we top up, we will feel it. we will feel the difference every time we top up. Still, we will anti-goverment raising price non-stop.

then operator should allow vehicle to make U-turn before the toll .. Roads in Klang Valley can appear like maze to outsiders that some cars just enters highway lane unwillingly.

Looks like you have not done any business dealings with PKR before. Neither have you dealt with those DAP parasites and hypocrites. If PR comes into power, the country will be looted at a more rapid rate..

Many developed countries do that. Don’t have to look far, it’s been efficiently implemented in Singapore for donkey years. Welcome to the rest of the world, time to crawl out from under the coconut shell

“…boosting efficiency and comfort….”. What comfort?? Drive along Guthrie hiway. Potholes and half baked patch jobs every where. Efficient only to increase and collect tolls.

Which stretch are you talking about? I sometimes go for long drives with my pals along Guthrie towards Latar and the newly widened coastal roads, and have not encountered the so-called potholes and patch jobs. Were you driving on the motorcycle lane?

  • Theh may have good intentions. But what they fail to weigh is the price of smart tag. It still costs approx Rm99 to purchase. Why not bring down the smart tag price. Rm99 is a lot of money for a student like me driving broken car where my power window also cannot roll down. Smart tag hardly got promotion. If got also cepat habis. I dont see a point to sell such a bad quality device for a high price.

Cashless for efficiency? More like cutting costs and what about fixing up some of the highway roads? Certain sections of the highway are bloody bouncy and you gotta solve the jam after the toll especially at LDP.
