Mercedes-AMG C63 S gets updated Brabus tuning kit for Geneva – now does 650 hp, 820 Nm, 0-100 in 3.7s

Not content with its earlier effort, Brabus has announced an updated tuning programme for the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S. Described as “full-blooded wolf in sheep’s clothing,” the new Brabus PowerXtra B40S – 650 performance upgrade will make its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

Obviously, power is the highlight here, and there is now more of it. Here, the standard car’s 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 (510 hp/700 Nm) receives specially-developed turbochargers with a larger compressor unit and a special core assembly with reinforced axial bearings, allowing for an increased boost pressure.

A new Brabus-developed ECU is also installed to govern the electronic boost pressure control as well as injection and ignition of the engine. These modifications result in a higher rated output of 650 hp at 5,800 rpm and 820 Nm of torque from 1,750-4,500 rpm. That is a whole 50 hp/20 Nm more than its earlier offering, and 140 hp/120 Nm more than the standard C 63 S.

The engine is mated to an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic transmission, which can be shifted via Brabus Race aluminum paddles. This allows the sedan to sprint to 100 km/h from standstill in just 3.7 seconds, 0.1 second quicker than before. Brabus is also offering the performance kit for the estate version of the C 63 S that will accomplish the same feat a tenth of a second slower. The Brabus Vmax unit bumps the top speed up to 300 or 320 km/h, with a matching speedo installed.

Other engine bits include Brabus’ stop/start memory module that stores the last selected setting of the standard system and keeps it active after an engine restart or switching driving modes. A stainless-steel exhaust with actively controlled butterfly valves for the V8 can also be specified, even without the engine tuning. The exhaust has various modes, selectable from the cockpit, allowing drivers to choose between an aptly-named “Coming Home” mode, and the other end of the spectrum, “Shouty!” (we made the last one up).

Furthermore, the Brabus-tuned C 63 S gets a Bilstein sports suspension setup featuring height-adjustable coilovers and absorbers with ten settings for rebound and compression rates. Two different Brabus-made wheels are available as well – Monoblock T styling with five spokes with inlaid carbon-look elements, and Monoblock F styling with a classic cross-spoke design. The wheels are fitted with 255/30R20 size tyres at the front and up to 275/30ZR20 on the rear.

Brabus exterior add-ons are a given here with naked carbon-fibre bodywork components available in matte or mirror-polished sealed surface. The aero enhancements come in the form of a front bumper spoiler and rear spoiler. Visual upgrades include the addition of carbon-fibre bits for the side intakes, front fenders, mirror covers and a rear bumper insert for the two dual exhaust pipes.

Similarly, the interior gets new leather upholstery, while areas like the contact surfaces of the sport seats, parts of the steering wheel rim, the dashboard and the door centre panels are coated with black Alcantara. Carbon-fibre and high-gloss piano lacquer elements complete the look.

While the Brabus 650 C 63 S may appear pretty potent, it is still shy of Renntech’s creation. Which of the two would you rather have? Or is there something else entirely that tickles your fancy?

  • Keep pushing the number is fine. But in reality, overstretch this small engine won’t work. I doubt it can survives 100,000km without issue.
