A video has emerged of the 2017 Husqvarna Vitpilen ahead of its international launch at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy on November 8. The Vitpilen – which means white arrow in Swedish – will come in 701, 401, and 125 flavours, as well as the Svartpilen 401, which means “black arrow”.
Looking for all the world like a retro-roadster, the Vitpilen shown in the video is not named, but from the looks, we assume it is the Vitpilen 401. It could as well be the 701 version, which uses the 690 cc single from sister company KTM as a base.
Information is thin on the ground ahead of the Vitpilen’s official launch, but from what has been going around the internet, we know the 401 puts out about 43 hp from its 373.2 cc single-cylinder, EFI-fed, liquid-cooled engine. This compares favourably with its claimed weight of 135 kg, which gives a power-to-weight ratio of 318 hp per ton.
Designed by Kiska Design, who also had a hand in the design of KTM motorcycles, the Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 concepts won silver at the International Design Excellence (IDEA) contest. The Vitpilen and Svartpilen roadsters see Husqvarna’s entry to road-going machines in 2017.
