2018 Lexus LC 500 to feature in Black Panther movie

In the movies of the Marvel Comics Universe (MCU), some vehicles have featured prominently, notably Ironman’s Audi R8 Spyder and Captain America’s Harley-Davidson motorcycles such as the Street 750. In the latest MCU movie “Black Panther”, the Lexus LC 500 takes centre stage, and a limited edition run of 100 units is destined for the US market, the first of what Lexus calls its “Inspiration Series”.

Coming with a custom white interior, the Black Panther has 21-inch wheels specially commissioned for this version, carbon-fibre scuff plates and a set of drinking glasses from Barneys. The power plant is unchanged, with 470 hp at 7,100 rpm and 540 Nm at 4,800 rpm going through a Direct Shift 10-speed automatic gearbox and Torsen limited-slip rear differential.

What is special about this particular LC 500 – which will be shown at SEMA – is the paintwork, reported to have taken eight months to develop. Named Strutural Blue, the paint is not actually blue but instead reflects all blue light and changes shade depending on the viewing angle.

The movie car itself is also a Lexus LC 500, but has Black Panther’s face plastered on the bonnet. Panther claws are draped on the mirrors, and a wide-body kit is installed, along with bullet-proofing, a brain/computer interface and the ability to run forever, whatever that might mean.

No pricing was released for the limited edition Lexus LC 500, but we can safely assume it will not be cheap. In Malaysia, the 2017 Lexus LC 500 retails for RM940,000, on-the-road, without insurance.
