Earlier this year, Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said that the national carmaker was “seriously considering” a compact SUV, admitting the segment’s growing popularity in Malaysia. His statement all but confirms that the company will build such a thing – a next-generation Kembara, if you’d like. Resident Photoshop expert Theophilus Chin has already shown us what that car could look like.
Now it’s the turn of local designer Idiyaz Baharuddin, and it’s a fairly handsome machine, taking after the new Daihatsu Terios quite a bit. At the front, sharp headlights flank a slim upper grille with a U-shaped garnish reminiscent of the new Myvi, while a large lower grille sits below it.
On-trend details include a black roof, a D-pillar kink and turbine-style two-tone alloy wheels, and there are also broad two-piece tail lights joined by a strip of red trim on the tailgate. The prerequisite black trim on the bumpers, side skirts and wheel arches provides the much-needed off-roader look.
Expect the real Kembara to be smaller than the seven-seat Terios, perhaps based on the DN Trec concept shown at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Under the bonnet, you’d likely find the 102 hp/136 Nm 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i engine from the new Myvi, paired to a four-speed automatic transmission.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Just bring the bloody thing and sell!
Pls act fast… No more honeymoon…
Kembara 1.5 DVVT-i Turbo.
Myvi already wiped out Persona, Saga and Iriz at one go.
Now this car will wipe out Boyue.
Habis la…..
Proton exports up
If Perodua rebadge this and the Toyota Rush, I think Potong can close shop
p2 rebadged terios last time but DoA
No 7seater NO buy.
If this thing comes here, the Boyue can close shop already.
Cause everybody trust Perodua quality and after sales.
If Perodua new Kembara make it to production confirmed will affect Toyota C-HR sales badly.
Nvr consider overprice, under spec and cramp C-HR already…. since the new Rush/ Terios/ New Kembara looks better…. New Kembara may even looks better interrmm of exterior and interior, and full safety/ accessories spec like new myvi is good enough. Might need to add on blind spot sensors and 360 bird eyes for this size SUV.
Not bad. But why do all car makers have to make their designs look the same as others. Borrowed elements from me too Mazda, Kia, Honda, Opel etc.
Because automotive company share platforms and hire the same design house.
Sack the designer!
At least this kembara render have the suv look. Daihatsu terios i see more like mpv look. But better follow daihatsu DN TREC concept for new kembara, cos toyota sure will bring in toyota rush into our market.
Since this is reborn kembara, could we have much better engine with fully hybrid? Better mileage machine.
Lets not introduce hybrid or other tech that will increase maintenance needs. Keep it simple and affordable.
Yes. Agree. Lets the big Japs and big Conti play the role. P2 stick what u do best, selling affordable good car. Tq.
If not hybrid then fully electrified car since d future is coming, we are not able afford comfortably to pay petrol price for next few year since as it fluctuated stablely n moving to higher vs world cruel oil price nowadays. Likelyhook d pricing is eventually transfering to consumer n most of gov in d world is not bail people out.
Toyota overlord only got 1 pretty good hybrid system. Hybrid synergy drive. Where la they want to sell that at cheap price.
Shut up and take my money!!!
If perodua can offers 5 seaters or 7 seater option will be great. Normal small family 5 seater with big boots space is good enough. Price below Rm 75k ….
Better arm rest design and more storage space pls…. Hopefully they can improve storage space and offer arm rest for all perodua models.
Yeah. And more discount. Sell under rm 30k perhaps. Because this is local car.
1.5l engine to pull 7 pipu inside surely underpower, i’ll skip this
I prefer 5 seater with an option of 2.0 litre
This is good if the actual product look like this. Wonder how they are gonna price it if it’s made here… old Kembara pricing around RM 50k ish?
No. Local cars dont deserve rm50k. They deserve rm30k. Because they are local.
Nice render, Mr. Baharuddin..
(Like) Idiyaz Baharuddin.
(Dislike) Theophilus Chin
P2, please don’t hesitate or wait any longer. The sales of HRV is a sure sign of Suv acceptance by Malaysian public. If you are slow, you will regret it. Cheers
This is an amazing design. Wonderful. Hope next gen Kembara will look splendid.
Because they all adopt the “shared platform” technology to save on development costs
Have a shorter version of this model with an updated gearbox. Price it right and it will sell like hot cakes!
With only 1.5 engine producing 102hp, it will be underpowered when fully loaded. All these manufacturers fail in power to weight ratio calculation.
if only use art Town area no big issue…. It will good enough, only long distance during overtaking it will be under power.
awd please !!!
Fuuhhh,nampak garang
4wd pls..
YESSSSSS…….Way to go, Theo – I hope and pray that both Datuk Aminar Rashid and Zamuren Musa will wake up and call you in IMMEDIATELY! Dear Perodua, please do add at least an electric motor to the existing 2NR-FE or make a patented 1.5 Turbo utilizing the same engine (or even 1.2L Turbo churning out almost 200nm for that vehicle)
Its Baharuddin, not Theo this time. But Theo is also good
Those engine cannot be fitted with turbo. Because they are made of alimunium. Cannot stand high pressure.
Seems like every car in this planet has very similar lamp design. No point buying conti anymore perhaps.
Litt AF i already see my new boyfriend hahahah
Pergh… If bring this cx3 also threatened… Lol but in the look only la… If they include al the feature they put into myvi also then habis… Semua hrv, cx3 segment… Lol
Yeah true…
Nothing to shout about
i read all comments, only a few knows what kembara is and own one and the rest think its another suv…guess the rest must be an auto tranny driver…hmmm
Kembara can tarpau cayenne…
When on parking
I really hope it would be a 7 seater
this is the alza replacement!
how much the price??
I wanted to know the new perodua SUV lembaga specification
