Perodua D55L SUV coming second half of 2020: report

Perodua’s upcoming B-segment SUV, codenamed D55L, is one highly-anticipated product – and word on the vine is that the car is set for launch in the second half of the year, according to the research arm of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance (MIDF).

Writing for The Edge, the firm suggests that the car will slot below the larger seven-seater Aruz, which is priced between RM72,900 and RM77,900. If that is indeed the case, it could very well cannibalise sales of the Myvi, which tops out at RM52,186.

The D55L will be a close relative of the Daihatsu Rocky/Toyota Raize twins, both of which went on sale in Japan in November. The two cars measure just 3,995 mm long and 1,695 mm wide and are powered by 1.0 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine making 98 PS and 140 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT.

No word on whether this engine and transmission combination will make it to the D55L, but Perodua has recently been spotted testing a Daihatsu Thor on local roads, which comes with the same powertrain.

Aruz and BRV sales will be killed by both Toyota Raize and Proton X50

Myvi sales will might be killed by Perodua D55L SUV

Proton must afraid of this news. If Perodua release their Game-Changing D55L SUV before their Chinese X50, then Proton X50 will be Game Over

Perodua fans still talking about how gamechanging their company have been but all I see is gameover talking. They have been talking about gamechanger Kenari Hybrid since 2003. Yes, 17 years ago!

And until today, 17 years later we still not see when are they going to sell Kenari Hybrid. None of their cars are hybrids and yet they talk and talk and talk as if they are a gamechanger but all they are is gameover.

Previously my friend here told us we should not follow China and instead follow his Japan overlord. Now his Japan overlord has fallen and their sales are going down the drain, then we have another that told us we should follow China. In that case I propose we follow Martians. At least they have flying cars. Agreed?

  • But in Malaysia, since Perodua D55L SUV will be here in during Q2 2020 that cost RM50K which will cannibalise Myvi Sales. Toyota Raize will also be coming here as well which will cost RM70K that will also cannibalise both Aruz and poor safety BRV

    • P55 will cannibalize Myvi and Bezza sales, while Proton X50 will eat up Aruz sales when it launches. Either way things aren’t looking good for Perodua. I worry for my bonus this year. Last year ady kena potong because sales target 250k not met, this year duwan potong kaw-kaw again.

    • Going back in time further, probably they pick Soh Chin Aun and Mokhtar Dahari. Perodua after all moving backwards and dreaming about past glories.

  • I’m guessing the price will be similar of the Alza. Say rm59k – 67k will be a spot for it. A low spec, mid spec and a high spec. Wonder will the manual come into light though. Also this model should also be a hit if it reaches Indonesia

Unlikely. 7 seaters like Aruz n BRV fulfil the needs of a medium to large size family but not a 5 seater like X50. The extra 2 seats make a lot of difference.

I agree with you. 7-seaters are more sensible for mid-sized families.
