The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic Sedan could be the next model to be locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia, at least according to a local Mercedes-Benz dealer. In a Facebook post, the dealer claims that the performance version of the A-Class Sedan – already a CKD model – will be launched soon and that bookings are now open.
The A 35 Sedan first arrived back in September 2019 as a fully-imported (CBU) model and retailed at RM348,888 on-the-road without insurance at the time. When the sales and service tax (SST) exemption kicked in, the asking price dropped to RM336,278, but as of the time of writing, the model is not listed on Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s (MBM) official website.
Currently, only the non-AMG variants of the A-Class Sedan, namely the A 200 Progressive Line (RM220,459) and A 250 AMG Line (RM243,858) are available, both benefitting from the maximum SST exemption of 100% as they are now assembled in Malaysia – these prices have increased by RM9,555.79 and RM3,999.88 respectively since the launch in October 2021 due to a bump in equipment.
The FB post (which has since been taken down) did not mention how much the A 35 Sedan CKD will go for, so let’s do some extrapolation to try and guess a figure. Wind back the clock to when all variants of the A-Class Sedan were CBU, and you’ll recall that the range-topping option was RM81,000 more than A 250 AMG Line.
When the SST exemption kicked in and a new price list was issued in June 2020 (before the A-Class Sedan became a CKD model), that gap was reduced to RM77,023. As such, a price tag close to the RM300,000 mark could be possible. Maybe RM306k for 306 PS?
On that mention, we don’t expect too much of a difference from the CBU version in terms of what’s under the bonnet, with a M260 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine providing 306 PS (302 hp) and 400 Nm of torque. A seven-speed AMG Speedshift 7G dual-clutch transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system are responsible for routing power to all four wheel – 0-100 km/h takes 4.8 seconds.
Other features that were present on the CBU version include AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive dampers, the full AMG Line styling package, 19-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels, dual 10.25-inch screens that link to the Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system, an AMG Performance steering wheel, Multibeam LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, dual-zone climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting, Pre-Safe and Active Brake Assist (AEB).
Despite the FB post, we’ll still have to wait for MBM to officially confirm if there will be an A 35 Sedan CKD. Are you looking forward to such a model and its potentially cheaper price tag?

Can Paultan do a comparo test of the A-class Sedan, CLA-class and also the C-class?
It is not that confusing.
A class sedan is a sedan, while CLA is a 4 door coupe like A class, and of course there is the A class hatchback.
C class is a different category, which sits higher than A class
Now this is an interesting proposition at least for myself. Just like how they CKD the mid range C43, making this A35 as a CKD would certainly boost sales.
AMG35 os just AMG that is no more AMG. The low price is able to give volvo S60 is real fight. Volve S60 has been tested by many reviewers where none of them able to achieve close result for the sprint time which claimed as 4.4seconds.

Why do people here have this weird concept that someone is not able to afford the next version if a so called lesser model was bought?
A35 sedan is the top range for the A sedan. There is no A45 sedan. Not everyone likes the hatchback, the CLA45 or the C43.
If the A35 sedan CKD comes true, I would definitely consider it for our second AMG.
