A couple of public holidays are coming up and with a day or two of leave, it’ll create a long weekend stretch. The public holidays are for Hari Raya Aidiladha a.k.a. Raya Haji on May 27 (Wednesday), the YDPA Agong’s birthday on June 1 (next Monday) and Wesak Day on June 2 (next Tuesday). Are you going anywhere?
If you are, and your journey is to the east, AFA Prime has released a travel time advisory (TTA) for the KL-Karak Highway and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 1 (LPT1) to face the expected big surge of traffic.
The concessionaire for the eastbound highways says that the TTA is a proactive initiative to reduce congestion at critical points, especially at the Gombak, Bentong and Karak toll plazas, which are main gateways to the East Coast. For a more orderly journey, AFA Prime is advising drivers to plan their journey based on its TTA.
For the balik kampung journey from the Klang Valley, which is May 23, 24 and 26, those heading to Pahang via the Gombak toll plaza can enter the highway from 10am to 2pm, while those going further to Terengganu can join the highway from 8am to 10am. Kelantan is the furthest state on the east coast, and those heading there are advised to enter Karak from 6am to 8am.
There’s also an evening option, where those heading to Pahang are advised to enter the highway from 4pm to 6pm, Terengganu from 6pm to 8pm, and Kelantan from 8pm to 10pm. As for the return journey back to KL (June 1-2), those from Pahang are advised to enter the highway from 6am to 10am or 7pm to 11pm, Terengganu from 11am to 2pm or 8pm to 10pm, and Kelantan from 6pm to 9pm or or 11pm till midnight.
AFA Prime encourages motorists to use the ‘free travel period’ from midnight to 6am for a smoother journey. Conversely, people should avoid the express bus peak period at the Gombak toll plaza from 9.30 am to noon and 9.30 pm to midnight to reduce congestion. Drive safe.
