Here’s a more comprehensive photo gallery of the Honda BR-V Prototype, which made its world debut earlier this afternoon at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015 in Jakarta.
The seven-seater, which is essentially the crossover variation of the Mobilio, offers what the company terms the “appearance of an SUV and handling, utility and spacious cabin of an MPV.”
Key exterior elements include high ground clearance and prominent roof rails for all grades of the car, wrap-around LED rear lights and new design 16-inch alloys. No exterior dimensions were revealed for the study, which effectively looks very close to completion as a production vehicle.
Two BR-V units were showcased at the premiere, the first offering a more conventional – and cleaner – presentation with what should be a working interior (the vehicle was on stage and off limits, so no detailed shots of that, unfortunately).
The other vehicle, the white example in the photos, is a more rugged-looking version complete with bodykit and blacked-out windows, suggesting how the BR-V can be dressed up.
The accompanying release mentions that the BR-V promises class-leading space with additional knee room and headroom, and elements such as the automaker’s Multi-Information Display and a rear AC blower (between the first and second row seats) are set to be featured.
The BR-V will be powered by a 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine with 120 hp at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm, essentially the same mill as found in the City and Jazz. Indonesia will get two transmission choices, an Earth Dreams CVT or a new six-speed manual gearbox.
Safety equipment touted for the vehicle includes dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and a hill-start assist system, with Isofix points also mentioned.
The BR-V will be marketed in Indonesia priced between 230 to 265 million rupiah (RM68k to RM78k), depending on variant when it goes on sale in the republic next year. Production is set to begin at Honda Prospect Motor’s plant in Karawang in January 2016.
The more pertinent point is to whether the BR-V is destined for the Malaysian market – nothing via the official channel yet of course, but sources within the company have intimated that the vehicle is very much bound for our shores. No word on timing or anticipated pricing, but the BR-V is coming, and that’s certainly going to shake things up in a big way.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
I’ve seen that rear before but I can’t remember what car was it from.
Honda BR-V rear lamp look similar with HR-V China Version.
Avanza uncles and aunties trading in for BRV.
Honda please have GOLD colour option with scribble decal on the sides.
Only thing left to do is to drive super slow and hog the roads.
Then rempits can take over old avanza, put lexus emblem, put oversized tyres, potong spring, noisy exhaust and send kids to tuition. Weekend can lepak dataran shah alam with car club and bawak bini shopping tudung!
Hahaaaaa
I love your comments! Noisy exhaust and send kids to tuition!!! Thanks for making me laugh so hard!
We must thank our BN Government for giving such wonderful choices of cars. Tahniah Kerajaan Malaysia. We appreciate the good work and again, thank you for reasonable car prices.
Only idiots complain about high car prices in Malaysia. Be grateful.
That’s why Rakyat must listen to BN and stop complaining.
BN give Rakyat food and house and car, Rakyat still don’t like BN.
BN supporting donation and not corruption !!!
OMG…Nice from the front and side, the back a bit Estima feels…Overall good.
dodge style rear lamp?
Facelifted prev. gen Sorento tail lights ? Front end too, especially the headlights…
I think it is like Nissian Grand Livina’s rear -.-
different designers for fascia and butt?
different cues and elements.
I hope people in Malaysia stop complaining about car prices in Malaysia. Car prices are so cheap and petrol prices are so cheap. Be grateful with what you got. It is our BN Government giving us all this cheap prices. Thank you BN
Innova/Avanza…watchout!
The back looks kinda weird… the logo is too low I think… Front looks awesome… Look like CR-V… Good Job.
very pretty the front! the back…..omg O_O!
one of the worst designs…
Nice looking car. Suitable for family man. I hope it’s cheap.
The rear is not good as expected.
This car could kill Avanza sales soon.
Front nice but the rear….not so.
Ok thanks for the news…
Main question if really arrived in Malaysia market, how market share and Exora will be affected by this budget Honda Brv.
Seen Exora or “Proton” over-price the local cars seen many years…
This looks way better than new avanza & Innova.
Looks nice enough. Finally Honda has an Avanza rival.Congrats Honda. Let the duel begin.
definitely better looking than the rush, and definitely will be a big seller if coming to sibu, just hope it looks nicer than this.
Front OK, Side OK, Rear Cannot make it
what happened to Japanese car designs these days?
Ugliest honda SUV ever….
Korean cars used to be ugly 10 years ago….but now the Japanese inherit it!!!
Sad…
AGREED!
Kimchi SUV RV sank to all time low.
Too bad, I have stoppped accepting them as there is no market anymore
Is this a global design car ie. something that will pass safety standards worldwide or is this another 3rd world country car like the Avanza? I’m hoping for the former obviously.
Will Honda ever release their direct injection Earth Dreams 1.5l engine in Malaysia?
kereta belum siap sudah mau reveal. Kasi siap la dulu belakang tu..
walao super ugly!!!!!
this car will start production and deliver 1st quarter 2017!!!!
1.5L engine would be a direct competitor with the likes of Toyota Rush, the problem with 7 seater small SUVs are that their design will usually end up looking disproportionately narrow and elongated.
1.5L NA engine? seriously? honda is joking is it?
that rear..urrghhhhhhhhh
HR-V looks is spot on, but this is hideous. I wander abt the sales figure, I recon not as hot as HR-V. Unless you are really Honda fanboy fanatic.
Great photos, nice catch on the dash trim and headrest. The Mobilio has the Brio “dash-sameitis” disease like the 1st gen Fit/Jazz and City. A friend of mine who drives a Brio daily accidentally ram a wall when backing up another friend of ours’s Mobilio. The whole same dashboard trim makes people mistaken the Brio/Mobilio when not accustomed to.
The BR-V different dash (looks like upscaled) should give the car that much needed differentiation between the Brio and Mobilio. The seat with separated headrest seems thicker as well.
One peculiar thing is that additional knee and head room statement… Does the BR-V lower the floor pan of the Mobilio? If it is, more power to the car, the Mobilio is roomy enough, an extra room here and there is just icing on the cake.
give it 1800cc, surely it’ll segment leader…
under power?
the pricing structure indicates the price for this model going to be more than 100k. unless they can kautim with government and reduce the price of jazz to lower 70k. and hrv to be maximum 90k. city also need to be lowered. so that brv can come in at 110k tops. cannot more if not crv will dead.
or
honda phase out crv. heard that crv is no longer going to be 5 seat, they going for proper 7 seat suv. if that is true then automatically crv can be priced at 160-170. that leaves room for brv at 120-150k
but this is not bad. not at all bad. how small is it
looks more or less same as mobilio…fugly
I do not mind if it come with all the safety of VSC, TC, ABS, 6 or 7 Airbag… the SUV looks very tall and narrow… doubt will be stable…
I leave my reservation on this… but damn the direct view from the back is UGLY!
Poor man’s CR_V
Very nice front look and side profile, but very UGLY butt. Different designer is it?
i reckon the price will be >100k once reaches Malaysia
HRV start from RM98k…so BRV should below
i dont think government allow such pricing as thats already near exora price, also dont think honda want to jeopardize their other models. probably priced around innova level..rm110k
Agreed with kzm. I’m guessing it’s between RM85k-below RM100k based on the HR-V & BR-V price based in Indon.
nonsense..there even SUV/MPV price sub-RM50k n sub-RM80k in boleh n it not even local brand
Such a big car only 1.5? At least 1.8 like HRV.
Disappointed no interior shots.not sure where is the rear aircon. Thought should reveal since opened for booking!
I’m guessing it’s on the ceiling instead of behind the centre console based on Mobilio.
Seems like the spare tyre will be mounted below the rear boot just like the Mobilio
Jazz Interior with steering wheel Brio combined with body Mobilio SUV looks like and front baby CRV.
Pricing is critical to its success. Priced too keenly near the 100k and Toyota Rush comes to mind. And we all know where that went; there was no rush to buy it. With a puny 1.5 lump under its hood, the Avanza comes to mind figuring prominently under the rm 70k price slot. If Honda wants to create product differentiation between the two aforementioned, they should drop in the 1.8 litre engine from the HRV to create a clear lifestyle choice. At the end of the day, pricing is still the by all to end all, at the current incarnation presented I would not want to pay more than I would for an exora.
That wheel is 17 (215/35 r17). Rubber looks so thin. Not likely to be used for production, heavy for 1.5L engine.
why no turbo charged engine?
The front looks close to Hrv but the back is just like a block
Hopefully the new BRV Honda Model price not too much different with the same model of Indonesian BRV Honda which is about RM 68 k to RM 73 K..let’s dream come true for Malaysian family netizens(prices below than 100 k)..we are waiting for BRV Honda…5stars
I wonder with that 1.5l SOHC i-VTEC engine, can it really ferry 7 full adults with no underpower effect? Especially if going to hilly roads like Genting?
