Chery wants to reexamine Chrysler small car deal

Chery wants to re-examine it’s deal with Chrysler to develop Chrysler-branded small cars for numerous markets, said Zhang Li, Chery Automobile Co Ltd’s general manager. The project has been halted for the moment and awaits renegotiation of the agreement.
This is because Chrysler has recently changed hands, now belonging to private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP thanks to last week’s US$7.45 billion deal. Chrysler spokesperson Mary Gauthier said Chrysler’s global growth plans remains the same, and the new owners Cerberus has not changed any of those goals.
I suppose Chery just wants to play it safe and make sure Cerberus is fully aware of all details of the plan.

IMHO, Chery means a lot more to Chrysler as they(Cherry) would be thier(Chrysler) platform for getting low cost
This might be also a plus point for Cerberus considering before the acquisition!

Chrysler story is like that of Mitsubishi. Mitsu is struggling after dumped by DaimlerChrysler (at that time), but somehow looks promising in delivering great products (lancer evo, i-compact) worldwide. Like Mitsu, Chrysler is still sharing some platform & tech from Daimler. The different thing about Chrysler is that the brand is only popular in their home country and they cant make it global with the weak branding. That’s why China is important for them.

The Viva feels slightly better and is certainly a better drive than the Cherry. In the Viva, you’ll find some Toyota-sourced pasts like the stalks and etc. Only the cheapish radio sort of pulled it down. Other than that Perodua’s mini cars still rocks. I’m enjoying my Kelisa very much especially the way it charges into corners.
