Autocar 2010 BMW 5-Series details scoop

BMW LogoAutocar has the scoop on the next generation BMW 5-Series, expected to go on sale in March 2009. The new executive luxury sedan will grow 10mm in length because of a longer wheelbase. To minimize weight gain, the chassis will use a version of the current model’s aluminium spacefront front mated to a steel rear.

The top of the range non-M5 5-series will feature a 4.4 litre V8, but it will be twin parallel turbocharged to produce over 400 horsepower.

New technologies will include blind-spot recognition, and automatic lane change detection, and these systems will all be connected to each other with a FlexRay bus, a network technology that first made its debut on the BMW X5.

More and more electronic device goes into cars this days. What suppose to be a mechanical engineering toy has now turn into a tech guy toy instead. Kindda sad sometimes when i think about it. The good all days of mechanical control has gone and replaced by a cpu and all its gadgets……..

So early?!? I haven’t even got bored with the current one yet!! It seems like only yesterday this current model was released! Maybe they should hold their horses for a little while until current model saturates in the market..?

the e60 came out in 2004. so im guessing it will be about 5 years by the time the new 5 series comes out. seems like they are shortening their model turnaround time.

both the E39 5, and E46 3 was around for almost 9 years.

This could mean that we could maybe see a new 3series by 2010.

the e46 was introduced in late 1998 but only available in msia in 1999. it was replaced in 2005….so that is 6 years.
based on this cycle…the e60 should be replaced in 2010.

but the current e60 still looks so modern and way ahead of its time. why the need to replace it so soon. however i can’t say the same thing about the e90 3 series.
