Mitsubishi Motors has released more photos of the upcoming Mitsubishi Prototype-S, which previews the soon to be launched 5-door hatchback version of the Lancer. A high powered Lancer Ralliart version featuring a 240 PS turbocharged engine and a less high tech version of Mitsubishi’s all-wheel drive system compared to the one installed in the Lancer Evolution X.

The version of the 4B11T in the Prototype-S puts out 240 PS and 343Nm of torque and is mated to the 6-speed Twin Clutch SST gearbox. The car has a wheelbase of 2,635mm, a height of 1,480mm, a width of 1,760mm, a length of 4,585mm and rides on 19 inch wheels wrapped with 215/45R19 tyres.

On the interior, Mitsubishi has given the car’s upper dashboard a black suede finish, while the upholstery gets light brown combination leather. The production version of the 5-door Lancer hatchback will be launched by the end of 2008, and is vital for Mitsubishi’s European plans.

More photos after the jump.

Powerful hatchback. But the rear spoiler seem out of place and the upholstery should be black too.

The Lancer Hatchback doesn’t look outstanding from the back, a bit disapointed that the sketch is actually look much better than the photo. I hope it may be looked better on ACTUAL car.

Just ask you all, anybody out there who has INTEREST to buy a HATCHBACK?
I rather choose SEDAN more GARANG than this one.

Mitsubshi Lancer Aeroback. I think it is a face to face competition against the new Impreza. Reminds me to the Aerobacks by Proton. Not the styling but the hatchback concept.

    auctioncenter2u,
please refer to the end of Paul’s article…
“and is vital for Mitsubishi’s European plans.”
    why is this line important?

because hatchbacks outsell everything else in Europe. Thats why. so obviously, this car is not targetting you at all. but then again, why are you getting so worked up about? there is already a sedan available that you can buy.

if they put evoX fender to the hatchback, it will looks much better and matches to its front bumper in term of radical and aggressiveness.

just like new subaru imprezza sti compared to lame 2008 imprezza.

    @ActionCentre

I would choose a hatchback over the Sedan..anytime, anyday.

Just because you don’t know how to appreciate a wagon/hatchback, doesn’t mean everyone else will share your taste. Hatchbacks are the most popular bodystyle in europe…and for a good reason.

I mean look at the trunk space….and the extra utility you can get after you fold the seats down…I can carry my bicycle easily.

I still hope they will do a proper Sportback wagon…..Mitsu always had Hatchback variants of thier Lancer/Galant models. Even the old Galant/Eterna E3x came with a hatchback

errr … a hatch is more practical than a sedan. You can fit more things into it. i.e. bikes, pram, TVs, surfboards, etc. Very handy for moving stuff as well.

What is it with the Asian preference for sedans? You hardly see people buying hatches or station wagons.

Give me a hatch or a wagon over a sedan anyday.

The back is too dull and boring which is totally a turn off. Nonetheless, for hatchback lover, a spoiler above the rear light will certainly dressed up the car making it closer to hot hatch. I’m sure a lot of after market mfg will be happy to sell that. How nice if the car looks like the earliest hatchback concept. Bottom line, Sedan 1, Hatchback 0.

like the front, not too sure of the rear. Does remind you of the ford focus ST. Also I am not too sure you get a lot of viewing space cause the rear mirror is small

I think, the prototype is more sporty and better than this ugly-rear-hatchback. Just disappointed with production mitsubishi sportback. Sigh. Not sport at all. Better do production car with the prototype design.

BanyakMasukWorkshop is right. In Europe, hatchbacks are all the rage and are sold off the line like hotcakes.

IMHO, the hatch looks better than the Evo X sedan. The rear looked like as if it backed up into a wall at high speed. Ditto for the Lancer currently sold today.

DROOOL!!!! Built it quick, Mitsu!!! Shape almost like the Focus but with a cooking turboed engine, who cares?
The brown leather looks odd here but get the car in metallic black or graphite gray and it’ll look great!
